DEF Pressure Issues

After 2800 miles of trouble free motoring I have run into my first CEL: P20E9: Reductant Pressure Too High

Sounds like it's basically saying the pressure on the DEF system is too high. Nothing much happened today besides filling the tank ~30 miles earlier.

What do you all think - should I clear the codes and wait for another instance? Here's the scanner output just as an FYI:

Re: DEF Pressure Issues

I had a reductant performance low code a few weeks ago. Reset it and no further issues.

I would give it a "gimme" myself.

Re: DEF Pressure Issues

If it were me, I'd at least want it documented while the vehicle is under warranty. That way, if/when something truly fails down the line (and possibly past the warranty period) you have record of the early indicators.

I'd take it in to a dealer to get it on record.

Re: DEF Pressure Issues

Yeah muzhik - you're probably right, but my laziness has won over better judgement and I simply reset the CEL as CNY_WK2 suggested.

My thinking is that there are plenty of miles to go in the warranty to allow it to rear its head again, so I should be safe.

Seems odd that we're seeing any of these errors thus far. It's certainly something to keep track of.

Re: DEF Pressure Issues

I got the same error (P20E9) a week ago at odometer 1853 miles. It was in the middle of a 460 mile drive starting up after a stop. The message went away after 8 miles, but the malfunction light stayed on. I drove 130 miles with the malfunction light on (kind of disconcerting). I reset the error after 60 miles but the light stayed on until I made another stop 70 miles later. Once the light went off, the error has not come back, but I have only driven another 50 miles since.

I am glad I invested in the OBD/Torque app so I could view/reset the error 230 miles out in the sticks.

Re: DEF Pressure Issues

I got this error yesterday. I was about 200 miles from home on vacation at Lake Tahoe. After driving the 200 miles home and the two or three on/off cycles that included the light has now gone off on its own. I think I'll still take it into the dealer. I was kinda wondering if this had to do with the elevation change, as I was 6,000 feet higher than it's always been driven at.

Re: DEF Pressure Issues

I think we need the flash update for tsb_wk2_1801814b. It lists P2E09 as a possibly erroneous error.

Re: DEF Pressure Issues

Taking mine in for the same code today. There is a tsb posted in a similar thread that shows a computer reflash to be done to correct issues of throwing false error codes. This code is one of those listed on the tsb.

Re: DEF Pressure Issues

yeah I found a couple TSBs last night after posting here! I guess I need to start checking those myself as my dealer (all dealers?) don't mention TSBs that affect my Jeep.

We all need to be proactive on TSB's. Dealers are not required to check and/or apply TSB's unless there is a customer complaint that relates to the specific issue addressed by the TSB. Dealers will only (in most cases) apply a TSB proactively if it is listed as an RRT (Rapid Response Transmittal) and they are not required to notify you about them. Chrysler is only required to notify a customer of recalls, nothing else.
