Delayed Ignition

Just got my JGC Ecodiesel yesterday and I was wondering whether or not it is normal for the engine to take 3-4 seconds to start. When I picked it up from the dealership it started instantly. I have started it about ten times now and eight of the ten times it has taken 3-4 seconds to start. Also it doesn't seem to matter if it had been running recently or been sitting off for an hour.

Re: Delayed Ignition

I work with tractor trailers and they all do that. My friend's Power Stroke does the same thing. It's some sort of preparation thing diesels do.

Re: Delayed Ignition

Its the glow plug delay. The old diesels took 15 seconds to preheat the glow plugs. Ours are ceramic and take 2 seconds. The engine controls delay automatically. This only occurs on cold starts when the glow plugs are required. The colder the motor, the longer the delay. If you shut down and immediately restart, they probably aren't needed but after several minutes, the combustion chamber is cooled and glow plugs are used.
