Diesel concerns

I had a chance to test drive a new limited the other day that had to Ecodiesel in it. I really liked it aside from the sticker price ($47,000). I live in upper Michigan and get some nasty winters here. Had temps in the negetives on quite a few occasions this year as well as winters past and I don't have a garage, so am concerned about the gelling I have read about. Will I be okay or am I better off just getting the V6?

Whether it is right for you or not is something I think only you can answer, but I've read several reports of people on here with temps in the -10's without gelling issues. I'm assuming (dangerous, I know), that the areas they, and you, live in have blended diesel standard. There are also fuel additives that will bring the gel point down to stop it from being an issue.

https://www.wolverineheater.com/SUVs-s/1513.htm add this along with your block heater techincally you could add it to the fuel tank if you have the metal skids or slid it between the plastic and tank.

Model FH - Fuel Filter Heater
According to the manual, all the 3.0s already have a 12v heater built into the fuel filter, so I don't think the second link would be needed.

I make sure I get diesel from a high volume station and I put in a anti-gelling additive to be safe since my work has no outdoor plugs.

Had a few days now in single to negative digits with 25 mph winds and no problems yet.

Your diesel in Michigan will be winterized. In the manual it talks about what temps are problematic. Check the diesel supplement. It says No.2 climatized diesel is good to -20 F. Though it does show using No.1 diesel in "Arctic" conditions of temps <-10.

Mine fired right up this morning (using remote start) at 5F.

From what I've been reading, you shouldn't have an issue (unless you do something like buy your fuel in FL and then drive north and park it in super cold temps with warm weather blend fuel).

The JGC is such an improvement over old diesels. There was no way we could start of John Deere's years ago in these temps even with either and we never had block heaters. We used to have to tow them into a garage above freezing for a day to get them to fire.

-18 below no block heater is awesome results...

I am a little concerned about Sunday night/Monday when it could get -25 to -30.

Thanks for the info guys. Having never owned a diesel, it seems kind of intimidating at first learning all the differences of a gas engine.
