I have been getting quotes from dealers on a new diesel Grand. One of them said the factory may preempt the diesels from going into the Grands for a while due to the larger than expected demand for the Ram 1500 with the same drivetrain.
I haven't heard that specifically but there was some talk about the finite capacity of the VM Motori plant and its ability to meet demand. I don't know what their capacity is or the demand...but either way, you might want to get your spot in line if you want one!
Or living in WA and being a short drive from the largest volume Dodge/jeep dealer in the nation he could just go there and get the group buy pricing... I did
JNAP and WTAP are always in competition for who gets engines and transmissions.
WTAP has shut us down. JNAP has shut WTAP down.
This *has* happened even in the recent past.
So this wouldn't surprise me.
Friend: "Y'all just shut us down!"
Me: "How?"
Friend: "We ran out of transmissions, they took them from us and sent them to you guys!!!"
Me: "Oh. That sucks. So I'm assuming they are sending you home?"
Friend: "Yes! Now my hours are short this week!"
Me: "Lucky."
Crabman, I live in Wa and have contacted the largest Jeep dealer (Kellogg, Id) not too impressed with there pricing. Any suggestions ? I e-mailed the sales guy in Bremerton but no reply yet.... Not in any big hurry.
I used the simple expedient of giving them the links to the group buys with the instruction that they could contact me if they wanted to match but not to bother me otherwise. Worked fine. They did try and add in a "prep" fee of 150 or something to that effect when I got there which I refused to pay. My suggestion such as it is would be that these people are not your friends, they are there to bleed you for every cent they can and that is their job. There is no reason to be antagonistic to them for trying to do their job as best as possible but never let the negotiation be done on any terms other than your own. You are also trying to get the best pricing and this is business not pleasure. You decide what you will pay, they can then choose to accept your money in exchange for a car or not. Its up to them to accept your offer, not you to accept theirs. Up front make sure that they know you are well researched on the best pricing and will do what it takes to get it.
I buy a lot of new cars and this will invariably work soon enough but you have to do your homework and get a realistic number for pricing. You need then only be firm and wait for them to come to you which will happen. Dont be swayed by those who say no. Things change slowly in business and many dealers would rather lose money taking down fewer customers for more than do what they consider giving cars away. Let the dinosaurs die their slow death and wait for your offer to be accepted.
