Re: Diesel noise boost!

The available AFE "cold air" intake (that sucks hot air) with open filter should give it a nice turbo whine.

Re: Diesel noise boost!

Amen to the Cummins 24V. Love the way my 01 sounds. I'll keep it forever just to remind me what a real diesel sounds like.

Noise is not the only reason new diesels are quieter. The multiple injection events controls combustion better than one squirt. This leads to lower cylinder pressure, less NO2, less hydrocarbon emissions and better efficiency. Low noise is a side effect. A pilot injection and a main infection gives a nice, not too loud, diesel sound. 5 or 7 injection events is very quiet.

Diesel noise boost!

I removed them. I didn't really notice a difference. Interestingly enough, they designed the ecodiesel ram to be louder than the GC. They know most truck owners prefer the diesel clatter. Still not cummins loud, though.

Re: Diesel noise boost!

How could they design the one in the Ram to be louder? I've heard it on a youtube video and it is louder. Sounds great in the Ram!

Re: Diesel noise boost!

I suspect they did away with noise dampening as opposed to internal engine changes....but I don't know for sure. I've been trying to figure that out myself.

Steve Hammes (auto reviewer) mentioned it during his ram test drive and confirmed it is intentionally louder. I was finally able to verify recently. Sounds great without being obnoxious.

All I know is jeep did several things to quieten the GC. Just hard to say which of those things in particular they didn't do to the ram.
