Diesel noise boost!

Please direct me if a thread is already started on this but has anyone removed the (2) foam noise dampers from on top of your ecodiesel engine? Do you like or not like the sound? To me a diesel should sound like a diesel, or don't get a diesel!

If you want the traditional diesel sound, you don't want the 3.0 L VM Motori.

Re: Diesel noise boost!

Some of the Cummins guys are doing away with the pilot injection with EFI Live. I haven't tried it yet. One shot of fuel and it'll sound like an old fashion diesel. There are a lot of advantages to the pilot injection so it's mostly for entertainment reasons but it can be done on a CR engine (without emission devices). If you fully deleted a Eco, you might be able to get a custom tune with no pilot.

Re: Diesel noise boost!

The manufacturers have been striving so hard to make the diesel quiet to get more people to buy them. Who knew some folks buy them for the noise.

Maybe a good recording of a loud truck copied to an SD card would do the trick. The driver could have all the noise they want, without disturbing anybody else.

Of course if the noise is just a way to attract attention to oneself... well, that's another kind of problem.

Re: Diesel noise boost!

I don't think those two small pieces of foam really do all that much to "dampen" the diesel sound anyhow.

We can extend your suggested idea to an externally mounted PA system

That's what I was thinking. Is it possible that this is actually some type of thermal insulation?

Yeah, wait till you see the mods to start rolling coal from that engine.

Seems the military has a new narrow jeeplike vehicle with that engine for use in airborne where before they were only able to use glorified ATVs before.

Re: Diesel noise boost!

Not in anyway shape or form talking about noise that makes people cover their ears, I'm talking about noise that makes people turn their heads and say "that's a diesel in that Jeep!"

It already makes plenty of "noise". Out of Diesel SUV's you can buy today, it's one of, if not the loudest.

I'll nominate my 2000 Cummins 24v sound recording duties... has all the clatter and turbo whistle one could dream of

Personally, I like having a diesel that makes people go "that's a diesel?"
