But the "Eco" should count for something, lol. Plus, hybrids can be eligible for tax credits on top of using less fuel, so you'd be subsidizing those drivers a lot more than diesel owners

NC is now imposing on plug-in hybrids a new $100 registration fee to grab money from those who use less gas. If we let states get away with this they will continue to approve new laws that penalize those who save. Though at the moment a plug-in hybrid still receives a sizable federal credit which offsets this new fee for most owners as long as they will own the car, but it is still opening doors I do not want to see opened. Also they do not have a list of vehicles that should be excluded from this since some plug-in hybrids from high end manufactures that do not qualify for the federal tax credit. So in my opinion those plug-in's should be excluded from the $100/yr fee.

Re: Diesel Prices

Don't get me started. Yes this discussion reminds me of that comedian who says that all the time. There is so much that we have allowed our Fed govt to do that it really is out of hand. They should really just go to a fee based on vehicle weight and miles driven. Every car gets inspected every year and the miles driven could be calculated easily. Set it up so that you could make periodic payments and be done with it. Fair to everyone and fee per mile based on the weight of the vehicle.
