It's all about the torque, bout the torque, bout that torque...

No way a gasser would tow my toyhauler with 4 Harleys, fresh water, and gear without gutting itself.

Gas has gone from 3.70 here to 2.30 .
Diesel has gone from 3.79 to 3.55
(In my area.) Kind of a bummer to see them not drop in the same ratio.

I did. I should have mentioned that a heavy SUV/truck driven hard or towing heavy will achieve 1.5x to 2x better economy than a gasser and still isn't gutting itself. If you drive like grandpa and the fuel cost differential is greater than ~25-30%, then you are correct.

For me, it's all about the torque even if cost favors the v6. Compared to the Hemi...its a no brainer since the torque delivery is still better and cost is lower.

LOL... well, at least you finally admit that cost can favor the V6.

Do you keep a load on that trailer hitch 24/7? Do you always mash the pedal to the floor?

No? I don't think many others do either.

I know that you live and breathe for diesel. Nothing wrong with that. But no matter how much you advocate for it, it's not for everyone... the math doesn't work.

Here in the land of oil and honey (aka Texas), gas is $2.59 and diesel is $3.29.

Lol...I have NEVER said it's for everyone...just me. I drive 30k a year and would either own the Hemi or Diesel so the payoff is there for me. I never even considered a GC as viable until I saw the diesel option. I do drive aggressively at times and tow sometimes, but most often I'm on the open road for work and the extended range and consistant 33 mpg at 65 mph is excellent.

The torque/drivability is a big deal for me and worth it even if the Pentastar would have saved me a few dollars. That is a value judgement based I'm my needs. The fact that the Hemi is more in line with the drivability of the diesel is why I compare my savings to that powertrain.

I understand the v6 gasser is a great powertrain for most commuters and the highway mpg isn't shabby. Kudos to Chrysler for a good powertrain offering with something for everyone!

I, like everyone here, would like to see diesel follow gas prices though. From what I understand more diesel is imported than gas and heating oil demand stabilizes demand so prices aren't as variable.

Why are you always so defensive in your replies? This thread is about the price of diesel. All I stated was that with the price delta between gas and diesel what it is, it's kind of hard to justify a diesel strictly from a fuel economy standpoint alone. You're trying to read something between the lines that just isn't there.

In Australia diesel is $1.60 /lt or about $6/gallon, so quit whining about prices. We dont, so you shouldn't.

Just trying to make it chrystal clear to you, Bones. You seem to enjoy the banter. I'm glad you feel your choice was best for you. Mine is best for me...so far. If diesel goes 40% above gas and stays there, you'll be the first to hear me cry!

Honestly, no offense intended.
