Honestly, no offense intended.
No one needs to make it crystal clear to me. I was pretty excited when they announced a diesel for the GC. Then I did the math and quickly realized it was not for me. If it is for you, that's great... no one's knocking you for it.

And no offense intended to you or any other diesel owner either.

For me, it's all about the torque even if cost favors the v6. Compared to the Hemi...its a no brainer since the torque delivery is still better and cost is lower.
I AM a grandpa and still want the diesel! (Just a little miffed that I did do the math before I ordered it, but the numbers have changed the equation a bit) Hopefully things will settle out and we can have the diesel for both towing/torque AND a cost advantage.

Guess I'll just have to get something to tow..........

Thanks!

I was aware of a program for off road diesel fuel usage but not for on road.

Time to start saving my receipts!!

Some are predicting that there will be a bigger hit on diesel than gasoline.

Very frustrating since 1. Diesel is easier to refine, hence less energy to refine it, and 2. we have cleaner emissions with the DEF system than a comparable gas engine.

Just show what happens when the inmates run the asylum.
Yep. Makes me sick.

Not looking forward to cap/trade implementation for diesel fuel pricing.

Re: Diesel Prices

FYI, I saw this on another forum today. It is Costco's reply to a customer inquiring about the availability of Diesel at Costco:

"We appreciate you taking the time to email Costco Wholesale and for your email about Costco gasoline. We typically do not sell diesel at our gas stations as it does not fit our high-volume business model. We are experimenting with diesel at a few sites in the U.S., as the number of light-duty diesel vehicles available in the U.S. is increasing. Listed below are the current test locations selling diesel.
#69 Billings, MT
#460 Rancho Del Rey (Chula Vista CA)
#466 Prescott, AZ
#491 Temecula, CA
#637 Gypsum, CO
#688 Bakersfield, CA
#747 Woodinville, WA
#1019 South Jordan, UT
#1178 Timnath, CO
Depending on the outcome of those test locations, we may expand our diesel offerings in the future.
Thanks again for your suggestion as we contemplate our product offering."

Asked my wife, who's client (for another product) is Costco, if there's anything special about these stores. She said nothing, but assumed they must consider these's good locations to test diesel. Maybe the demos show a lot of diesel drivers/sales in the region. Dunno, but hope you all get out and buy some. I'd love to see a relatively local Costco with diesel.

Re: Diesel Prices

I also have a hard time justifying leather seats, sunroof, technology package, etc. when resale value when I'm ready to trade in my 2014. Why should an engine choice that make the Jeep more fun to drive (and tow our RV) be linked to price more than any other option?

Re: Diesel Prices

My understanding is that we are using less gas (more fuel efficient cars) but diesel use is growing, due to increased trucking.

Re: Diesel Prices

Diesel is now $3.09/gal near me, as low as $2.69/gal in south Houston.
