Re: Diesel Prices

I topped off my tank at the Baytown buc-ee's last Sunday. Cost me less than $40 for 3/4 of a tank lol

I'm kidding, sorta. Environmental regulations are one of about 4 major components affecting diesel prices relative to gas. The others are higher taxes on diesel, demand for diesel outpacing that of gas and, most importantly, foreign demand for diesel fuel.

I'd like to see the CNG system expanded for noncommercial vehicles. Many fleets are switching, or have switched to CNG. You can install a compressor at your residence, but it's kinda pricey.

Electric vehicles (like the Tesla) are very cool, but the whole battery technology thing is a big issue, as well as toxicity of current battery materials (back to the Earth again).

To me, burning lots of dirty diesel fuel is not a rational alternative to other fuel sources.

Re: Diesel Prices

Just when I thought I had fully and finally talked myself out of the diesel JGC because the economic case just didn't work ... suddenly diesel is now cheaper than regular gas in the Atlanta area. Per Gas Buddy, the cheapest regular near me is $2.79; the cheapest diesel is $2.55!

What's going on? Is this an anomaly, a summer thing, or a trend of some sort?

Summer is cheaper
It'll go back up in winter when those that live in sub zero temps need heating oil.

Yeah, and that's the only time (Mid Winter) the Hemi guys try to compare their vehicle's fuel costs to the diesel.

Overall diesel is more expensive on average, but not very much.

Re: Diesel Prices

I'm here in Utah and the least expensive Diesel close to me is $2.76. Most stations are selling it for $2.85. Gas on the other hand is around $2.97 to $3.05.

Re: Diesel Prices

Just got back from a trip to northern California and found that the delta is quite a bit bigger down there. They must be dealing with gasoline supply problems. $2.99 for D2 and $3.39 for RUG was the cheapest I saw. Many other stations were more than 50 cents different.

The other vehicle in our group was a 2015 4Runner. It got 18mpg and had to stop for fuel three times for every time I had to. We tallied up our fuel expenses after we got back and his was just about double what I paid.

Re: Diesel Prices

MBDiesel,

Good to hear; I went the diesel route against the 4runner for this very reason.

Curious, what was your mpg compared to their 18mpg? Apologies if you already posted that in an earlier thread.
