Does Jeep sell spill proof DEF bottles?

Hi all, I was just curious, and did a search but could not find anything to answer my question. Do the Jeep stealerships have spill proof bottles of DEF for sale? In my 2013 Passat TDI, the DEF tank filler neck is in the trunk, and VW has spill proof bottles that screw on to the filler neck, then you push down on the bottom of the bottle to open the valve and let the DEF drain into the DEF tank. Once the DEF tank is full the flow stops, release pressure on the bottle and the valve closes and no spill at all. I was just curious to know of Jeep offers the same thing.

There have been numerous DEF spills in the new Passats b/c the dealers don't use the spill proof bottle, since they get DEF in bulk, and they just pour it in and the techs don't pay attention and the tank overfills and spills into the spare tire well. Customers drive their cars away and they hear a swishing sound in their trunks and when they check on it, its DEF swishing around. lol. There has been a case where the a spill was needing constant cleaning by the dealer, and the DEF crystals just kept coming back and had spread to interior of the car thru the back seats, the customer complained everytime to Volkswage of America, and documented each and every instance the crystals came back, and he ended up with a new vehicle b/c of it. And since the DEF filler in the GC's is next to the diesel fuel filler (which is capless), I would think Jeep would offer small spill proof bottles so that there is no chance of a spill which may splash/spill into the fuel tank.

Is this the case? Thanks!

Most DEF in 2.5 gallon boxes come with a filler nozzle. It slips inside the neck and I've never spilled a drop. I simply kept the nozzle in case I'm ever refilling via an alternative method. The nozzle/hose is collapsible and ford nicely in the spare tire tool kit.

I'm not sure if jeep sales one (I doubt it) but even if they did, I wouldn't pay for it considering you can get a device that works perfectly with your normal def purchase.

I have put in 3 of the 2.5g jugs so far and filled up once at a truck stop from the pump.

I haven't spilled a drop. Our fillers are not buried in the trunk, they are right there under the fuel door.

It's pretty much idiot proof.

Here's a video on how the owner of a Passat TDI can fill their adblue tank.

Now THAT is a pain in the butt. Not knowing the level would create an overfill situation. If I had a TDI, I think I'd rather use the DEF pump at a truck stop to fill my trunk tank and trust it to stop at full.

lol. Those bottles are spill proof, so when the DEF tank is full, no more DEF will flow out of the bottle and into the tank. Then you just take pressure off the bottle and allow it to spring up, which closes the valve and doesn't let any DEF flow out while you unscrew the bottle from the filler.

Re: Does Jeep sell spill proof DEF bottles?

Just get it at the pump. MUCH cheaper that way. And if you spill some...simply wash your fender.

I haven't seen a DEF pump yet here in Northern VA, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. I can't imagine the turn around on the content of the DEF in the storage tanks to be very high, since the vehicle won't need a fill for about 10K miles depending. Shelf life from what I have read is quite a long time like a year maybe two, depending if its stored at a certain temperature range, I think it was like from 10 deg. F to 90 deg. F. I'd rather just buy the 2.5 gallon DEF jug at walmart and keep it in my basement. lol. At least I know its been stored properly and not contaminated or what else have you. lol.

Re: Does Jeep sell spill proof DEF bottles?

All the big trucks use DEF. All truck stops have high turnover on their diesel. I bet the bottled DEF is older and we know its more expensive. I've haven't spilled a drop yet.

Re: Does Jeep sell spill proof DEF bottles?

Flying J truckstops up here in MD have DEF at the pumps. I bet the same is true in NoVa.
