I would be reluctant to use additives. It's not that they don't do what they are supposed to do (they don't) but any additive adds its own ash and soot. Because of the DPF we have to have ultra low sulfur diesel fuel (ULSD) and low ash synthetic oil. Both need to be very low in additives and therefore have have to be of a high quality in the first place. Putting additives into the tank or sump defeats the purpose.

So what triggers the regen in this vehicle? Some vehicles are set to do it at certain mileage intervals. Some use differential pressure across the DPF to figure out when to regen. Unlike this vehicle, some have the DPF so close to the engine, that there is no regen system.

Both differential pressure and intervals are used based on my research. I suspect its whichever method calls for a regen first.

My Aussie MY2012 WK2 CRD has only the "close to the engine" type of regen. Are your WK2s different?
