DOM's Injector Plate- Vibration

This nicer weather had me thinking about my oil change coming up. While it's on the lift, I want to see what's causing dom's plate to rattle at around 800 rpms (2nd/3rd gear). I put it on during the winter, so I didn't pay too much attention to what's happening down there . I am sure that everything's tight, with the exception of the bolt that would be drilled through the frame, I had skipped that.

Re: DOM's Injector Plate- Vibration

The lack of attachment to the frame is what is causing the rattle
Without the bolt or at least 3M double sided tape it will rattle

Re: DOM's Injector Plate- Vibration

This ^^^^

For sure it needs a bolt or double stick ( very hi bond 3m) , Velcro( 3m very hi bond).

I actually am using a bolt and Velcro so when I remove. I have taking this plate off hundreds of times for what ever reason. I need to put the u tube vid together.

Why would one need to take the plate off hundreds of times?

One wouldn't have to ever really take it off at all once secure.

I did and have because I was testing different hardware, I would sell/ give a used plate to a friend or friend of friend , made different prototype plates to test for fitting or possible better idea etc..

Or another example was /is if one brings in there jeep and they need to work on the exhaust or he def injector. If a 2014 customer who did not want to drill into frame needed it removed , using the Velcro would allow for it to be mounted in that location , vs having to have a strip of double stick with them. This is if they opted out the drilling procedure.

I can probably come up with a few other reasons.

When you need to do the "song and dance" of P20EE and your dealer is not comfortable messing around with a custom plate.

Re: DOM's Injector Plate- Vibration

I found that velcro alone was insufficient (i.e. the 1500 rpm rattle was still present). I got some plastic shims from AutoZone and simply jamming one in there has completely stopped the rattle. I mean, right now the shim is just resting in there.

When I get a few minutes I'm going to drop the plate, remove the velcro, 3M tape the plastic shim to the plate, then add velcro to the top of the shim. Should defeat the rattle permanently without requiring any further tape/retape if the plate needs to be temporarily removed.

Oh yeah, okay. Thanks, I thought it might be for testing and what not.

I ended up just putting Velcro on both sides of the plastic shim and then putting that back in between the plate and the frame. I had already put Velcro on the plate and frame a few months ago in what turned out to be an inadequate remediation for the rattle.

The plastic Velcro'd shim not going anywhere, and the plate vibration is totally banished, but I can still drop the plate without having to redo an adhesive.

Bretty gud.

BTW, I'll admit that I'm probably incompetent, but I originally went with the drilling procedure because I anticipated that would secure the plate better. However, I did *not* have the nutzert tool and so I gently tapped the nutzert in with a hammer and then cranked the screw down with the allen wrench to crimp/set it. I then unscrewed the screw, installed the plate, and rescrewed the screw, So far so good.

Months later: rattle. I hadn't used any blue loctite originally, and so the screw worked loose. I added blue loctite, seriously cranked that bastard back down, and declared permanent victory.

Weeks later: rattle. I eventually discovered that the nutzert had straightened back out and so while the screw was really secure in the nutzert, and the nutzert was really secure to the plate, the nutzert wasn't really attached to the frame. Ironically, this probably made the rattle louder.

I thought about getting a nutzert tool and doing it The Right Way, but I think my sandwiched velcro plastic shim is a superior solution in all respects save aesthetics.

Re: DOM's Injector Plate- Vibration

What u did is perfect! Yeah if u don't have the tool it's harder to properly mount the nursert. The way u did it is right!

I'm trying to source a place that can sell me cheap China made nursert tools so I can include in kit.

Re: DOM's Injector Plate- Vibration

After finishing the P20EE "song and dance" I found a YouTube video of a guy who used a grade 8 bolt, oversized nut (I used 1/2in), lock washer, and anti-seize to set nutzerts. All you need to do is drill the frame and tap in the nutzert with a hammer. Then add anti-seize and tighten the bolt down against the nut. Works great, and cost less than $3!

Edit: added photo of complete install
