Re: Eco Diesel Mileage

Just got my new Grand Cherokee Diesel with Quadra-Trac II last week. On a 200 mile trip today in southern Appalachia, I managed 34.7 mpg. Not too shabby. I was driving with in a "steady-throttle, variable-speed" style and I tried to time the two or three red lights I encountered so that I wouldn't have to stop. Mean speed was 53 miles per hour.

Re: Eco Diesel Mileage

Drove Sydney to Lismore and still had 520 kms range left.. showing 7.2 litres/100. Nearly as good as my old 2.7 diesel GC.

I gotta do the math... 7.2L/100km = 32.7 MPG.

Sydney to Lismore: 740km = 460 miles
520kms range left in the tank = 325 miles

That's a total range of 785 bladder-busting miles. Impressive.

Re: Eco Diesel Mileage

I've wondered about the effect a certain brand of diesel fuel (Shell V Power),that supposedly had a cetane rating of 44-46, would have on the mileage of my 2014 Limited 4X4. 90% of my fill-ups have been at the local Kroger fuel stop that says its cetane rating is at least 40. Other threads have covered the difficulty of knowing for sure what the cetane rating of the fuel you're getting is (exclusive of CA which is at least 50 by law).

Most of my driving is highway and this vehicle is primarily used for business so I currently have 79,000 miles on it (purchased 11/13). Driving routes and habits are fairly similar from tank to tank.

I ran 5 tanks of each diesel fuel brand while keeping detailed records of each. Bottom line: I averaged 29.0 miles per gallon on the Kroger brand with the average cost of 7.6 cents per mile with cost per gallon averaging $2.20 per gallon.

After 5 tanks of Shell brand I averaged 28.5 miles per gallon with the average cost per mile of 8.5 cents per mile with cost per gallon averaging $2.40 per gallon. I should disclose that 3 of these 5 tanks were used on a 2,200 mile round trip to the PGA at Whistling Straits averaging 75+ mph on the interstate so I'm thinking I would have gotten at least the same mileage on the Shell as the Kroger brand with similar driving.

Anyway those were my results.

Under 70 the eco will give 30+ with ease, and gets better as you get miles on the motor. Sweet for a 5k+ lb truck..
