Re: Eco Diesel Mileage

Just complete a 400+ miler from Houston to San Antonio and back. I am very impressed with my numbers especially in an all wheel drive 5300+ lbs vehicle.

Just over 27mpg 80% hwy and mph between 65 and 90. BTW. This thing is a blast on road trips!

Re: Eco Diesel Mileage

I drove 180 miles each way on a short round trip. About 50-50 60 and 70 mph roads. On the out going trip I turned the ECO off and got 32.4 mpg. With the ECO on for the return trip I got 30.8 mpg. Conditions totally the same ie. flat and no wind. Go figure?

Re: Eco Diesel Mileage

For the sake of science, lets all use the trip meter and reset before traveling. A pic of the trip meter shows avg mpg, miles traveled, and time elapsed. Avg speed can be calculated from that. Of course the EVIC mpg isn't dead on but is fairly accurate as a comparison for others.

Re: Eco Diesel Mileage

also depends on tyre size, I get an extra 5% more klms for my bang for the buck as I am running taller tyres. ..

As requested, from a trip conducted about 6 weeks ago (second week of August).

26.7 mpg over 260 miles @ 70 mph on I-80 on the plains. Driver, no passengers, not much cargo, no towing. Tires (stock Forteras) inflated to 42 psi cold.

Re: Eco Diesel Mileage

Roadkill, that's 70 mph avg. Your tires are certainly aired up tight! Seems low by 2 mpg. Are you burning pure diesel or a bio-blend? What elevation? Any headwind?

On the flat at 70mph, I normally see 28-29 or better mpg. I'm usually at 300 ft elevation...not sure how that affects things.

Elevation is 500 - 1000 ft over that distance. It's pretty flat. No perceptible headwinds.

I have never put in any biodiesel blend unless BP, Shell, Sinclair, KwikStar, or Philips 66 lied.

Previous runs (I have done this quite a few times) netted 9+ L/100 km, though that was on standard tire inflation and perhaps a very few average mph higher. Winter blend makes it worse, obviously.

Do you ever use your air conditioner? Before I got the EcoDiesel I rented a 2013 Limited V6 and it got 24 mpg on this run on 89 octane ethanol mix at the same time of year on standard tire inflation with the A/C on. Probably going faster than this, given I was in a hurry.

Anyway, I'm underwhelmed by the EcoDiesel's fuel efficiency, as even at its best for me it isn't appreciably higher than the rental V6 I drove hard for 2,000 miles. At the EcoDiesel's worst, well, we discussed my 13 - 15 mpg in town last winter.

Maybe it will get better in a few years when I hack off the DPF.

That's only 63.8 mph average. Did you drive much faster then do some city driving or long idles? 27 mpg is low for a trip at that speed unless you where in the mountains.

---------- Post added at 11:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:51 AM ----------

Tomorrow I am driving 11.5 hours all interstate, no mountains, some hills, only 1000 ft overall elevation change, just me and 50 lbs of luggage. Oil life is at 26%. The return trip is in 5 days. I will log all fuel usage, miles, engine time, tire pressure, etc. Stay tuned.
