Eco Diesel Servicing

This forum has been a wealth of knowledge for me when I was trying to decide what GC package I wanted. Ended up with a 15 GC diesel. Best deal going was outside my area. I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience in the Norfolk/ Virginia Beach area with having their diesel Grand Cherokees serviced. I typically do general maintenance myself but the diesel is a different animal. Thinking the Ram dealers may have more experience techs. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Here's why you will want to get to know your dealer. I had some oil changes included in the sale, every time I've gone in either it's had a reprogram update available or check engine light. So I've found it convenient drop off the jeep, oil change, tire rotation and TSB updates.

Typically oil changes are $150 at the dealer, it's not too bad of a job to change the oil, 2 gallons. Need a decent size drain pan.

Agree. Had the dealer do warranty issues on my past Jeeps. But looking for those that have experienced diesel service personnel since it's only been out 2 years. Appreciate the input.

Make sure to remind them at service that the Jeep only takes 8qts where the Ram with the same engine takes 10qts. It makes a huge mess if they put 10qts in your Jeep Ecodiesel.

Had no idea they took more oil. I need to get educated all over again, thank you.

Re: Eco Diesel Servicing

There was a diesel-powered Liberty a few years back and the 2007 and 2008 Grand Cherokee had a diesel option in states that don't follow California emmissions requirements. Every Jeep dealer around here also sell/services Ram trucks.

They also had the Dodge Sprinter from I think 2005-2010 which yes is a rebranded MB Sprinter with a 2.7 or 3L MB diesel. These were serviced through Dodge/jeep dealers.

Re: Eco Diesel Servicing

Chasvb1,

Actually, regular Diesel maintenance is generally simpler than gassers. I do all my own oil and filter changes and also UConnect updates. However, I do take it to dealer for tire rotations (my ageing body demands it LOL!), and this is when they then do any TSB's etc.

If anything urgent comes out from FCA, I will also take it in to get it done.
