Ecodiesel 4x4 OEM Tires - What did you get?

My GC Eco with Adventure 2 should be in this week. I was wondering what brand and type of tires come with it? I asked the sales dude, and he had no clue. Usually they put on the lowest bid tires, and may change during the year.

So, what tires did you get?

Re: Ecodiesel 4x4 OEM Tires - What did you get?

Michelin Latitude last I've heard. Many have been angry that the "on/off road tires" spec'd on the window sticker are actually crossover-SUV highway tires. My ORA2 '14 has them, waiting for them to wear out before I switch to Michelin LTX M/S2's.

I've been off road plenty with the Latitudes; not ideal, but for what I do not bad enough to change before they're done. Haven't gotten stuck or damaged them off road yet over 14k miles.

Re: Ecodiesel 4x4 OEM Tires - What did you get?

That is good to hear regarding Michelin. not sure of the Latitudes, but Michelin is my preference as of this time.

As long as they go thru snow, and are okay on the road, then I am happy. When I move in a couple years, then I may need something more 'off-road".

They are passable in the snow, but bad when it gets icy. Never had a tire that aquaplaned like they did in standing water.

Michelin Lats here too. Way too mild for my taste. I will run for the summer and switch out for Goodyear Duratracs in the fall...we get LOTS of snow here and it starts in Nov and might go away by April. So almost half the calendar year is winter weather conditions.

Mine came with Goodyear Forteras. I live near San Francisco, so there's hardly any weather here. The Forteras work okay in the dark, when the sun goes down.

Re: Ecodiesel 4x4 OEM Tires - What did you get?

I took a look at the Latitudes, and with having the "trail rated" badge, I think these tires are a bit wimpy.

I gasp at the thought of these tires hydroplaning, and no good on ice. This is Michigan driving conditions often.

While the Fortera's aren't great... they are at least adequate enough to at least use them up. I've been thru a record breaking winter in the midwest and two 3500 mile driving vacations and the have done well enough that they will stay on till used up....
Prob won't buy them again, but I wouldn't scrap them early....

Re: Ecodiesel 4x4 OEM Tires - What did you get?

Goodyear Duratracs

As I am in the "south" we don't see much snow, but plenty of rain, and I've done a little off roading with them. The OEM tires sucked in the wet weather.

At the end of the day they are both form and function.

I lost some MPGs and they are "louder" than stock, but totally worth it from performance and aesthetic reasons.

Re: Ecodiesel 4x4 OEM Tires - What did you get?

The Latitudes that come installed from the factory on the 18" rims are useless in mud, I can vouch for that. I got my poor GC stuck in 4 inches of mud...all 4 wheels (latitudes) were spinning. Had to pull it out with the tractor. As soon as the Latitudes are used up, I'll be getting something with a little better off-road ability. I don't go off much, but I hunt and I don't really want to get stuck quite so easily. :-)

I am happy with them ON road. Relatively quiet, seem fine on dry roads. I've heard aquaplaning is an issue, though I haven't experienced that myself yet.

Anyway, if you do anything off road, ditch the Latitudes...the sooner the better. Don't even think about leaving them on through a winter if you have any sort of slow speed hills to ascend.

Yes, they are pretty bad. My snow/ice braking distances more than halved after fitting the Coopers. Maybe see if the dealer will change them out for you, or if a local tire place will do you a deal on a trade in with them.

I have the AT3's on my cherokee right now. It will be the only tire I ever use on my truck. They work great in all conditions.
