Re: EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

A local Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep-Ram dealer is running an ad in the paper, offering 4 diesel oil changes for a prepayment of $210.95 plus sales tax. The oil indicated is Rotella T. I thought that was interesting.

Re: EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

Will be using Castrol SLX Professional LL03. Has the spec of VW 507.00, ACEA:A3/B4, C3. This is the oil that I presently run in my diesel 2009 Jetta sportwagen and requested by VW. This oil is for late model diesels that have a DPF system and will not harm the emission systems on the vehicle. Been using it for 80,000 miles. The Jeep requirement are for the MS-11106 that is ACEAC3 SAE 5W-30.

Re: EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

There is a lot of debate over using "other" oils...only 2 are approved to Chrysler's standard. With a $12k motor and the finicky emissions hardware, I'm sticking with the approved oil...not because it's better, but because there is no documentation that the others are MS-11106 approved. Having been at the mercy of their warranty approval already, it's a no brained for me.

Re: EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

Understand what your saying, but how do you explain the label in post #26? It appears to be good for both spec's, therefore serves the same requirement. Both spec's are for the emission equipment we have on these vehicles. The only thing different is that the Jetta doesn't have the DEF systems. These oils are for the DFP system and not the DEF system which is causing all the problem. Wish we didn't have any of this JUNK on any these engines. Good luck and keep up informed on your outcome.

Re: EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

My $0.02 here after looking at the stats between Mobile1 ESP and Pennzoil Euro L both 5w-30. They are both pretty decent, but between the two, Mobil1 is slightly better (at least on paper). Comparing the detailed stats, the differences that put M1 in the lead: Pour point (M1 is lower) and Flash Point (M1 is higher). Now these are really extreme ends of the fail points of the oil, so in the end it isn't super helpful, but if you believe the data Mobil1 wins.

Re: EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

As someone else pointed out, the previous applicable specs are met in MS-11106 but an additional spec is added. I'm no oil expert so I can only assume that MS-11106 is more stringent and only oils with that spec on the label are tested. I'm not ready to experiment at this point...its too easy to just follow the specs.

Re: EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

Mine's 2K off it's first service, i'm going to question our only dealer further as to what oil they're using in the CRD.

Can anyone tell me what brand of oil is used on the assembly line? as it would be nice to continue using the same.

Cheers

Thanks Aleks192, for that info but the second paragraph has me questioning your answer because of the bold hilite i've put in red.

Our CRD's downunder are fitted with the DPF's so I can't see how they would use this oil in the export models.

Re: EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

Our NA ones have DPF as well, wouldn't lead you stray because I swear I have been looking for an alternative since I bought this thing. The $200+ oil changes are not overly pleasing and I'd rather do it myself. It's well known that Pennzoil Euro L is the factory fill, and that's all they'll recommend at the dealer, it's all we can get here that's ms-11106 compliant aside from Mobil 1 ESP-M which is the same price. There are alternatives down south like Kendall gt1, champion ultra lows saps, and liqui-moly but we don't have those either....

I just purchased 4 oil changes from my local place for a total of $300 including tax. At $75 per oil change, pretty good deal. I'm thinking of printing out the page from the manual on the oil requirements and taping it to the steering wheel.
