Re: EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

I'd be suspect...the filter is $65 ($40US?) And it's 9 liters of $15-20 per oil.......

Buy the oil from amazon, about 80 bucks per oil change including filter. Forget the dealer unless you really want to....

Re: EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

Flicking through an aftermarket automotive supply mag that comes across my desk every month I noticed this ad for Gulfwestern 5w30. doesn't specify MS11106 but has BMW & VW specs, any way thought it may be worth an investigation by members over east.
Here's the link to Data Sheet: http://www.gulfwestern.com.au/Data%2...rgy%20Plus.pdf

See pic,

Doing a search using their online datalink for eco diesel mY14 it comes back with this link : http://www.gulfwestern.com.au/Data%2...-30-3-2014.pdf

You may want to make sure that they only use the Jeep-approved oil and filter. Merely taping the requirements to the steering wheel, that doesn't mean that's what they will use.

$75 per oil change sounds like a good price, maybe too good to be true.

As the old commercial said, "You can pay me now, or you can pay me later."

I don't know if it's too good to be true. I keep getting Mopar coupons for $49.95 "diesel truck" oil changes in the mail. Less than half the price of DIY.

However, when I do the oil change I know it gets performed correctly, with the correct oil, etc. So, unless I can get the dealer to just give me the oil + filter over the counter in exchange for the coupon + $50, I'll pass.

I'm pretty sure both of these are for Cummins 5.9/6.7....
I bet they would not honor them on an Eco Diesel when it comes time to check out... But 50.00 is a good price even for a Cummins since it holds 3 gal !

That would be intensely stupid, given that the Chrysler obviously knows this is for an EcoDiesel and printed the VIN of my Jeep on the paper. Why would Chrysler directly send a single coupon in a letter that they had no intention of honoring? It's not like this was something I found in a flyer... there was nothing else in the mailing except this "y u no let dealer change ur oil, owner?!!!1!" invitation + single coupon. Well, that, and the fact they have done this twice now.

Yes, the fine print said something about limiting the amount of oil to like 12 quarts or whatever, but that's irrelevant because the EcoDiesel only takes 7.6 or 7.7 L of oil, depending on how metric you feel today.

Re: EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

I would run, run away from any of the cheap oil change options for our 3.0 engine. I trusted my previous dealer to use the right oil and we discussed it numerous times to use the Euro L. Well low and behold they went with a cheaper synthetic Mopar oil that doesn't meet specs. Got tired of arguing with them over the wrong oil and moved on to another dealer that understands how to service this engine. Don't be fooled by the lower cost options.

"If you want something done right..."

Personally, I find it's just too much hassle to *not* do it myself. Especially because I do UOA each time, want the ability to choose whether to use the MS-11106 Pennzoil or Mobil1, and so on.

However, getting 8 quarts of spec oil plus an OEM filter for $50 over the counter sounds like a great deal. Maybe I'll try that next time they send one of these coupons. Should be good for laughs at least: "No, I'm not letting you touch my Jeep. Just give me the supplies you would have used."
