EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

I want to find out what everyone is using or will use, Aussies welcome but I only want to hear from EcoDiesel 2014 owners please.

It should be MS-11106 Chrysler Spec, but if you are using or plan to use something else, please say so and why.

I think this should be an open discussion, so let's respect peoples reasons for their choices, even if they are not specifically certified. However if you are going to use a non-certified MS-11106 oil, we should be able to respectfully discuss why.

I see no compelling reason to not use Pennzoil Euro L yet

Re: EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

I've been using Rotella T5 10W30, change it 3-4k so far; just sent sample off to blackstone. After 10k miles i'll figure on switching to C3/229.51 oil otherwise Mobil Delvac 1 LE 5W30 looks good, analysis it look like 229.51 but they don't claim it is.

Recently a sample result of M1 ESP 5W30 from a aussie diesel JGC was posted and looked favorable. I'd just prefer gallon jugs.

Re: EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

I thought our motors had a unique requirement and only 2 oils met the spec at this time? Is Rotella T5 on the list?

X2. From Amazon by the case, delivered to my doorstep with a few extra quarts for my other gas powered engines.

The oil required is basically the same spec as Mercedes Benz 229.51 ; which has low SAPS, meaning sulfated ash, phosphorus, sulfur. There's a small handful of oils that meet 229.51, not easy to find in USA.

Rotella is 1.0% ash were as a C3/229.51 spec oil will be .8% ash

ZDDP, Zinc/phosphorous will be 25% less with C3/229.51

It still has the same additives, just in less quantity.

Now I believe the C3 oil can carry more soot without thickening, hence why I change out Rotella more often.

Use CJ4 rated oil or Rotella with caution, but it will protect the engine better than C3/229.51 oil in most cases. I wanted to run Rotella during engine break in at least, and it hasn't burned any oil so far, so no oil has made it to the DPF.

Re: EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

Right from Rotella website:
Shell Rotella® T5 Synthetic Blend Heavy Duty Engine Oil combines synthetic blend base oils and advanced additives to deliver excellent protection, even at low temperatures where the enhanced cold-flow properties help protect your engine. Shell Rotella® T5 is formulated and designed to energize the oil's performance and provides fuel economy benefits*, improved low-temperature flow, and delivers an advanced "Low-SAPS" formulation which helps control the blocking or poisoning of exhaust after-treatment devices.

But what they're referring to as "Low - SAPS" is the change from CI4 to CJ4 oil, which was 25% decrease in ZDDP, C3 takes ZDDP down another 25% .

Yes there are only 2 that have the Cert but sometimes are scarce. This is why I am asking.

Re: EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

We got the Pennzoil Euro L. from the dealer.

I was going to order from Amazon Prime also but I told my dealer
what I could get it for and he beat the price to get me to buy from
them. So as long as he will beat their price I'll stick getting it from
the dealer.

Re: EcoDiesel Which Oil Will You Use

Pennzoil as well here. Purchased from a distributor in Chicago named Keller-Heartt Oil.
I do oil analysis and will post results when I do. I for one will only use what is certified until other suppliers get certification. Engine is too expensive to screw around with any other oil in the US than approved Mobil and Pennzoil...
