EcoDiesel Wrangler

Read on Jalopnik last week from leaked powerpoint slides from FCA roadmap that the EcoDiesel is confirmed as a powertrain option in the next Wrangler. That is the vehicle that needed a diesel engine the most. Excellent off road prowess and fuel economy to boot (there's a member here who got 20 mpg off roading with another 4 runner who got 11 mpg on the same trail).

Re: EcoDiesel Wrangler

There was another doc that mentioned "by the end of the decade". Though, that could mean any day starting from today, up until 12/31/2019.

I wonder if the Wrangler EcoDiesel Rubicon edition will have skid plates that cover everything except the flimsy plastic DEF injector that is oriented straight down and which also represents the point of minimum ground clearance.

Heh.

Regardless, I suppose we can count on GDE to come to the rescue with an off-road tune that allows the failure-prone emissions systems to be removed.

I'm looking forward to the wrangler pickup.. If it looks anything like the AEV brute, with a diesel.. I'm sold.

Re: EcoDiesel Wrangler

I got tired of waiting on the ED Wrangler so I ordered an ED Ram today.

I saw the same "by the end of the decade" article which helped me make up my mind to stop waiting.

I've got a '12 Rubicon 2-dr. and a '14 JGK Overland diesel. I'd love to have a JKUR with a diesel to pull my off-road trailer.

Re: EcoDiesel Wrangler

Are Wranglers any good to tow with? I've got a 14x7 enclosed trailer It weighs between 4-6k with load when I normally tow. Wondering if a Wrangler can safely handle it. It's a vnose so has better aero for highway and I have ORII package so air suspension that levels it out nicely so don't need a WD hitch or anti sway bar.

Several things wrong here. The trailer weight will be over the Jeep's tow rating.

You still need a WD hitch even though the Jeep sits level.

Just because a Jeep will get a load moving doesn't mean it's okay to do. You still have to be able to safely handle the trailer in emergency maneuvers and get stopped safely. Too heavy a trailer with a light tow-rig will eventually lead to "The tail wagging the dog" and you'll find yourself on your lid on the shoulder of the highway. I've seen it many times.

Agreed on all. The JKU has a towing capacity of 3,500 lbs., and this has to be adjusted in light of load on tow vehicle and effective front profile of trailer. My VMI Offroad trailer is under 3k lbs., and it seems that would be in the range of a JKU diesel. My Grand Cherokee Overland has a towing capacity of 6,2000 lbs.

Re: EcoDiesel Wrangler

You wrangler guys really want to join the P20EE club with the grand Cherokee and ram owners that bad? Run don't walk away from the vm diesel. Don't get me wrong I loved the engine but after owning 3 jeeps that engine and air suspension ruined mopar for me.
