Emissions Readiness after CAT replacement

My CAT was replaced to the "AB" version about 2K miles ago. Yesterday, while playing around with my OBDII scanner and a few of the new PID's mentioned in another thread here, I decided to review the Emissions Readiness Monitors. I was amazed to find that two monitors are still in "NOT READY" state. The monitors I noticed were "NMHC Catalyst" and "DPF/PM monitoring". Reading a bit further, it looks like regen related monitors are especially difficult to "ready" as they require hard to achieve regeneration cycle states. This seems to be a known issue with modern lightweight diesels. My state allows up to two failed monitors so I should be OK, but many other states (CA is, AFAIK, much stricter) are not that forgiving. Can any of you that had their CAT replaced check their Emissions Readiness Monitors and post if they are all at "READY"?

Re: Emissions Readiness after CAT replacement

I had the same issue, mine went right down to the wire. I failed inspection and it lasted the full 60 days that I had to get it re-inspected. Finally had to hand the dealer back my Jeep because I couldn't legally drive it. It cleared after about 2000+ miles. Dealer originally thought they would clear after 100 miles /laugh.

Check my thread history, posted a longer write up a few weeks back.

Re: Emissions Readiness after CAT replacement

I have about 3800 miles since the AB cat install. Still not ready, inspection is due next month. Hopefully, my replacement shows up before then.

Re: Emissions Readiness after CAT replacement

Dumb question - what EXACTLY is the difference between the fail-prone original cat and the new one everyone is getting installed?

Please do not hijack this thread. You are in the wrong thread, wrong forum and wrong site.

Re: Emissions Readiness after CAT replacement

I had my CAT replayed in January and driven at least 2000 miles and just had my state inspection done and failed i believe for the same reason. My dealer said to drive at least another 100 miles and have it re-checked.

Thanks for cross-responding. I've seen your other thread and appreciate that you commented here so we can keep track on that. I'm about 3000 miles after CAT replacement (actually the important timeline trigger is the last DTC clear, as this resets all the readiness monitors) and am still not ready on two monitors. I'll cross my fingers for you, but I believe you will be back to the dealer. This will be a major issue with states that do not treat diesels with leniency as it looks its an issue with many modern light diesels. Hopefully we can use this thread to track and push either Jeep or the EPA/states to take action. Please keep us posted here with any updates.

Re: Emissions Readiness after CAT replacement

Jeep is definitely aware of this. When I brought my diesel back because it had passed the 60 day after failed inspection mark the dealer said Chrysler wanted to gather data from my Jeep as they drove it. They told me the sensors literally reset as they were driving around and logging data for Chrysler.
