Re: Engine block heater cord

I'm sure that cable will work... but be careful. The cord I bought from the dealer inluded heat shielding from the orange socket to about 6 inches up the cord.

WK2Jeeps.com has a nice wire routing diagram for the install

Re: Engine block heater cord

I've never had a problem buying anything from Geno's. I bought my last block heater cord through Geno's for my Cummins and never had an worries.

Re: Engine block heater cord

So, all I need is this $16 cable and plug? Really, that's it? IIRC it was about a $50 option when I bought my GC, which didn't come with it.

I'm rarely in the cold but the High Sierras in the winter can get cold (Bridgeport CA, Pickel Meadows).

Re: Engine block heater cord

I found Milous's drawing here, showing how and where to route the cable.

In that same thread someone else confirmed that the block heater is already there and all I need is that cable. Cool.

Yup. I tried to negotiate in the cord when I bought it (didn't come wired from factory) And they tried to explain to me how complicated and expensive it was to install Was a good way to familiarize myself with the new vehicle. The socket is farther down and closer to the alternator than I had gathered from the picture.

Remember to remove the existing protector plug

Do you locate the socket by feel, or is it visible? It sounds like it's a bit of a stretch to get to it. And then does the cable need any heat shielding, or if routed and secured correctly is it okay without any shielding?

Without taking things apart, it is not visible from the top or bottom. I stood on a short ladder, and put my whole hand down close to the firewall enough to bend my elbow around to feel for the cap. (There were probably other easier ways to do it!)

Others have said it's ok. Depends how you route the cable around the hot parts. Use zip ties to attach to other wiring harnesses.
