Engine ecu (tune) question

For those in the tuning field or have used tunes, is the eco diesel ECU the same for the Grand Cherokee AND the RAM 1500 eco?

Re: Engine ecu (tune) question

The basic ECU itself is the same between Grand Cherokee and Ram. The programming inside them is different and they are based on different versions of core software. However one can be flashed over the other.

GDE - Thanks for the info. So in theory I could use one spare ECU to cover both vehicles? I have a 14 jeep gc, and recently picked up a 15 ram eco-diesel. I notice the ram tune seems to not have the jeep flat spot, and revs a bit higher as well.

Does the ram tune work on the jeep? What are the differences you've found so far between the two?

Thx!

Re: Engine ecu (tune) question

An ECU with Ram programming will not safely run the WK engine/vehicle, and vice versa. There are tons of differences between the two tunes based on vehicle-specific features, emissions programming, wiring differences, etc.

The Ram's shift points are higher due to more energy required to move the vehicle compared to the WK, and different emissions tuning in stock form.

An ECU that's programmed as a Ram can be reflashed with WK software and vice versa. if you look at the front of the ECU, the base sticker is the same.

For function as a spare ECU, it won't run the vehicle without having the proper VIN programmed so it wouldn't make sense to try and use one spare for two vehicles since it'll run only one at a time.

The RAM programming\tuning seems to be better sorted than the Jeep tune, and doesn't have any discernible lag off throttle. RAM is 3:92's and Jeep has 3:45 final drive, I think the lower gear is part of reason.

Thx!
