Re: excess DEF consumption

Got mine with DEF filled. I've only had to put in 2 gallons over the 14600 miles I have on my CRD. And that is a lot of in town driving.

As a caveat, I did have the CAT (P20EE) issue that went on for several months.

Re: excess DEF consumption

26200 miles. Beyond the initial fill at the dealership, one added about 10 gallons of DEF. I never fill it full. Average is 1 gallon per 1150 miles. Driving mixture is 70% highway. Jeep is 10 months, 8 days old from in service date.

Splinters88: What do you think your burnrate has been? Too laszy to do the math. Acording to my guage I have 385 miles and I have burned through 25%. I's going to keep and eye on this.

Roughly 1 gallon def to ~ 736 miles.
Granted with this past winter I have done remote starts 4/5 days a week, idling for at least 10 mins to warm up car. I have also done a 3 800-900 mile trips towing 6000# trailer.

Re: excess DEF consumption

There is no way you burned through 2 gallons of DEF in less than 400 miles. My guess is that your jeep sat for awhile (before you bought it), and somehow the DEF crystalized enough to hold the reading at 100%. Then with movement, enough DEF sloshed around the tank to de-crystalize the DEF and now you have a true reading. Go to the dealer, and have them refill it for no charge - (if they say no, have them call the Jeep rep - he will authorize a free fill, and if they still refuse, refer them to the PDI sheet, and that they should have added at least 6 additional gallons on delivery). After this, my guess is that you will be on par for 8 gallons/10,000 miles.

Re: excess DEF consumption

Shannon: That is an interesting theory. My Jeep did sit for quite awhile. I got stuck with that Government paperwork fiasco. I did have the dealer top off the tank. I went back to the work order and it said top off DEF per TSB 25-006-13. They added 1@ $23.75. Does that 1 mean 2.5 gallons? Isn't that what it comes in? I remember I asked how much the DEF was at the dealer. They told me $9.50 per gallon. If I multiply that by 2.5 it comes out to that 23.75. So it looks like I only got 2.5 gallons and I was short by maybe 2.5-3 gallons. It sounds like you may be correct. I will get it refilled like you suggest and see what happens. Mike

Re: excess DEF consumption

Had to put in some Def in FL last week. Peaks Blue whatever... $9 and change for 2.5 gal at a Napa.

BTW, I have 9k on jeep, after second 2.5 gal add, I'm at about 30% full.

I had dealer fill tank at purchase, but they didn't have enough. Got up to 90%. They said come back later in that first week, but a 45 min drive to dealer, so skipped it.

Re: excess DEF consumption

Shannon: Well I went back to the dealer and they put in 2.5 gallons of DEF which got me to 100%. They only put in 2.5 gallons at delivery which would not have been enough. So maybe now I will get a better accurate reading. From everyone's post if you do 50/50 normal driving. You should expect a burnrate of about 1 gallon per 1200miles. If you multiply that by 8 you get about 9600miles per tank, which is close to the 10,000. I will report after I take my 2500 mile trip. That trip should only consume 2 gallons if it's working nominally. Thanks to everyone for the input and your theory Shannon.. Mike
