Re: Factory Hitch - Whose came with?

Newby, got my 2014 ecodiesel limited 10 days ago with 6k miles on it. Since it was used, I didn't have the option to order a hitch. I've used Uhaul in the past, but they said they don't have a hitch for this model. So after calling around SoCal had to have the best price dealer install at $700. Funny to find this thread and forum as I had it done today.

Re: Factory Hitch - Whose came with?

Hitch was not standard on 2014 and had to be added as a single option or with OR2 package (which is what I picked as it added full air suspension and QDII).

Re: Factory Hitch - Whose came with?

'14 EcoDiesel came without the hitch. Bought the hitch, hitch plug, and plastic bezel. Had one of the Jeep service guys install the hitch on his lunch break. He charged me $100. He had to take off the rear bumper, remove the frame guard, cut the bumper, install the hitch, and fit the bezel. Had it done in about an hour.

I wish I knew someone with the ability to do it. The $700 I paid is like the last three uhaul hitches combined

Re: Factory Hitch - Whose came with?

The dealer, or someone with access to Chrysler's scan tool, needs to activate the wiring if you want the 7-pin harness.

Even the front tow hooks aren't standard equipment which seems like a no-brainer for 4x4 models.

Re: Factory Hitch - Whose came with?

Getting ready to do mine. My dealer charges about 500+ after install.

Re: Factory Hitch - Whose came with?

It's the coming package that takes the tow rating from I think 2500# to 7500#. You need factory installed.

Re: Factory Hitch - Whose came with?

I'm just baffled how you buy a Limited (or Laredo, or Overland) without knowing whether or not it has a receiver on it. Don't blame Jeep because you forgot to look down before you bought...it's not like its hidden or something.

As noted above, it's much more than just a piece of metal with a 2" square hole in it. Many folks DON'T tow with their Jeeps, so they don't want/need to spend the upcharge for all the additional bits (HD cooling, different shocks, wiring, etc).

And, if you have a Summit, the receiver is there - you have to remove a sight shield on the rear bumper. Two twist-pins, and the center of the bumper cover pops off to give access.

And V6(gas) have single exhaust; Hemi/diesel have duals.

Re: Factory Hitch - Whose came with?

Just installed mine yesterday. Went aftermarket. Personally i dont like the factory look too much and i give a rats @$$ what anyone thinks about my opinion.

Went with a Draw tite hitch. Decided to go aftermarket because didn't want to pay 500+ for a OEM hitch when i'm not going to get: 1) load leveling shocks[If i ever want the load leveling i can always get them] 2)220 amp alt.

Along with the hitch i installed the 7 and 4 connector. Once everything was connected i tested the 7 and 4 but did not work. checked fuses and i believe all are there. I recall reading somewhere in here that the brake or taillights should work but the turn signals will not until you have the dealer use their scan tool.

Does anyone know if that's correct? I have a break light i want to install and connect it to the 4 connecter.

Re: Factory Hitch - Whose came with?

The tow package includes a full size spare tire. If you got a flat while towing would you mount a mini spare?
