It begets the question then, for those of us that ponder theses kinds of things, why then the change-in light of the CRD snafu with VW and emissions? Perhaps with the failure rate of engines to SCR's has a factor to consider as well?

Re: FCA Changes Motor Oil Spec

Don't know, but remember many choices/recommendations from manufacturers are not based on engineering. Case in point: The recommended oil for the VM 2.8 in the liberty (0w-40, IIRC), was crap a likely led to rocker arm failures. But it helped Chrysler meet yhe CAFE regs. My guess is customers complaints of availability and cost of recommended oil had something to do with it. And, as long as it gets thru warranty period, they don't care.

Re: FCA Changes Motor Oil Spec

And, the extended warranty does not cover the exhaust emissions crap either.

Edit: It appears there is a TSB out for the new WK2's, and it includes oil change, stickers, and a flash.

But the TSB does only say it's for 2016 WK2's?

I initially thought the same thing when I read the TSB but then I saw:

"NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or before June 30, 2016 (MMDDHH
0630XX) and equipped with a 3.0L Diesel Engine (Sales Code EXF)."

I took that statement to include all the model years that this engine is in. Please correct me if I am reading this wrong. I have a 2014 and will be stopping by my dealer this afternoon to confirm this information and how it may pertain to my model year. I have been keeping a close eye on this discussion and I did see they updated the 2014 diesel suplement also.

Re: FCA Changes Motor Oil Spec

Grim,

Please share your findings from the dealer. I would like to have clarification, as I have a '15.

Re: FCA Changes Motor Oil Spec

that TSB is an RRT and calls for changing the existing oil and it will be done on all the new dealer stock on the lots or any coming in for other service. what do you suppose happened that they felt the need to put out an RRT to have the oil changed out on all brand new vehicles sitting on the lot? its one thing to just start recommending a different oil like they did with the hemis moving from 5w30 to 5w20. But actually taking the action of changing out unused 5w30 for 5w40 on all new dealer stock. something must have happened to prompt money to be spent dumping all that unused oil from vehicles?

I believe that they will *possibly* issue an additional bulletin to cover prior model years (due to different Flash).

What prompted this change, and the required change out of oil from unsold vehicles sitting on the lot. And for that matter, what changes are being made in the software flash? Are you privy to that type of information? If you are, can you disclose the reasons?

Re: FCA Changes Motor Oil Spec

Well, I'm doing my 20k change today or tomorrow and stumbled across this. I know GDE had been running T6 in their test RAM for many miles. I have Pennzoil in the garage already but will use T6 and see if I can return the Ultra L...
