First driving impression - Sell me wk2

I have been waiting for a GMC Canyon diesel, but was disappointed in lack of features, and options. Like no Homelink, or sun roof/push start option. Also, the interiors are cramped. The leather (fake leather) seats in Colorado and Canyon have started falling apart already.

Anyway, my next vehicle has to be a diesel, not because of economics (it doesn't make sense), but because of the feedback the engine give you and that little diesel clatter which I love.

So, my first driving impression of the 2016 GC is that it is built nicely and very comfortable for me. No wonder, most of you love it. I like the fact that in 2016 they put the regular gear shifter back. I have to decide between Overland or Limited with all packages. Of course, it all depends on what is available. I will hate to order it to my spec and wait 8-12 weeks. I waited for Canyon diesel long enough already.

My one question and something that really concerns me is - How is Eco-diesel it in city traffic? I am in DC Metro area, and my commute is 50 miles round trip, and I sit in DC traffic for 20 miles of it. Will this clog up the exhaust and cause frequent regens? How many mpg should I expect in given scenario?

I have seen many 2015-16 GC in my parking garage in DC, but have not seen any Eco-diesel.

Anything else I should be mindful to, when it comes to GC Diesel and city traffic? I do go on long trips of 100 miles plus on weekends. And usually put 20-25k miles every year on my vehicle. This GC will be replacing my daily driver.

Mods - Please move this thread to another area if this is not the right place.

Thanks!

I live in DC area too. Just like you I want a diesel and test drove the Colorado in Hagerstown when that was all I could find. I liked that it had Apple Carplay and some other features but honestly it was bigger than I wanted to DC parking garages. It didn't feel mid truck sized. Last and most important, the diesel didn't have enough power for me. It felt really slow to get that truck moving. Once you were on the road it was fine, but I found the GC diesel to be better sized and 60 extra hp. It felt much better moving down the road. My .02.

Re: First driving impression - Sell me wk2

Sitting in stop and go traffic is going to activate the Regen cycle but a good part of your driving is also higher speeds so it evens out. I seldom use a full 8 gallons of DEF per 10k miles because I do little city driving.
Your weekend trips will take care of any issues.
I studies and drove the various models and settled on the Overland because the Overland with air suspension is excellent so is the Summit but the interior color I could not cut.
I think this Jeep is going to be my best overall vehicle yet at 38k miles
Built 19 Dec 13 delivered 2 Feb 14 as I was out of town when it arrived at the dealership.
I would not change a thing and this thing handles well. I still own my 335 BMW and sold both my M3's recently so I have a good deal of experience with good handling vehicles.
Power is more than adequate and I will use a flash program when my 8/120 extended service contract is up. By the way that cost 1950 from Zeigler and is a bargain.
You will not be disappointed.

Hands down Jeep makes for much better commuter than Canyon Actually look forward to my 70 mile round trip commute in my 2015 Jeep. 6000 miles so far getting 29.7 MPG with last three tanks over 30 MPG. Have had not one problem with my Jeep, very happy owner
6000 miles used less than 4 gallons of DEF.

Re: First driving impression - Sell me wk2

Thank you. This makes me feel more comfortable and solidifies my belief that this is a good vehicle.

I am coming from Audi A6, which had a bulletproof engine (2.7 twin turbo). It was one of the best vehicles I had (even surpassing land rover disco).

Whats the worst mpg do you get when you spend a lot of time in traffic?

Jeep gets really great mileage when stuck in 5 mph to 20 mph traffic. Would say mid 30's mpg.

Re: First driving impression - Sell me wk2

My worst non towing fillup to date was 23 mpg. My best was 33.4 mpg (almost all highway). My best towing (14x7 enclosed trailer) was 21.2 mpg - that was based on resetting the trip computer and staying at the speed limit. My worst was 14.9 mpg towing trailer overloaded and doing 80 mph most of the way from KS to NJ.

Having a sarcastic driver on the wheel adds another 10 mpg. Try it..oh wait.

I average 15 L/100 km in traffic over the winter. That's about 15 mpg.

Worst tank average in the past few months was 14.6 L/100 km, on a stock EcoDiesel Summit.

Re: First driving impression - Sell me wk2

I know you mentioned leather, the Limited does not have real leather. The Overland has Napa leather seats and a leather dash. I'm biased, I prefer the nicer interior. I also dislike the plastic on the exterior of the Limited.

Thank you for confirming. I noticed that too. The salesman said it has Napa leather, but I can feel it just like I have in Honda. Then, he said it is a part of premium package II (the test drive was just limited without any package). I couldn't find any mention of leather in Premium package II.

Glad we are over winterblend fuel. At least for next 7 months.
