Thanks, I'll ask about applying the TSB as that is probably the issue. Maybe I can get them to cover my oil change under warranty because of this? Haha doubt it though.

Seriously doubt it, but you can for sure give it a shot. Who knows they might just do it. I was given the vehicle triggers the message when it needs new oil speech when I asked to have the TSB done.

Is there a # for this TSB? I had my only done at 3300 miles partly based on the oil indicator but also because it was new and I wanted to get that change done. Granted I didn't pay for it but I'd like to have the indicator light work properly.

Yes, 18-018-14 Rev. B under Vehicle Performance group dtd. 4/16/14 so it's a fairly recent one.

I have a Fumoto on my XJ now. What is the thread size for the ecodiesel's plug?

This is why I always do my own oil changes and simple (brakes pads, tire rotation, etc) repairs and maintenance. It's amazing how they can screw-up or poorly perform such a simple task. Over torquing of lug nuts and oil plugs are two of my biggest pet peeves. Other often found issues when others do various simple tasks on your car: missing clamps, missing oil plug gasket, not replacing the filter, not using enough fluid, not bleeding lines that require such, not putting caps on properly, leaving a mess, etc.

Fuel filter change

I am 6,000 miles away (23,000 miles currently) from the third oil change in my 2014 Turbodiesel. Owner's manual recommends replacing the fuel filter at 30k. Since I've done all the oil changes myself I was wondering if there was much to the fuel filter change? Any experience in this area out there? Thanks.

First oil change some info and comments

Got my first oil change today, was at 5600 miles and 4% oil life remaining. Had a pretty crappy dealer experience, first trying to get them to apply the OLM TSB as they clearly did not have a clue, also needed the HVAC TSB for the heater issue and was not successful with that one. They left a nice oil spill too which I discovered when I got home.

I'm wondering about the oil though, I checked the fill stick and when I wiped it with a rag I noticed the oil was black, I did it several times just in case it was just some residual oil left behind but I kept getting blackish looking oil off the stick, is this just the particular oil used or was my oil change maybe done incorrectly? I'm used to seeing a lighter colored oil right after an oil change. ImageUploadedByJeepGarage1400216094.761305.jpg

Re: First oil change some info and comments

Same thing with my first oil change. Check your receipt; the dealer charged me for only 6 qts of oil and it was overfilled, clearly indicating most of my old oil was still in the engine.

Obviously, they did not allow for the extended time to drain. I took mine back the next day and the dealer provided another oil change under supervision of the service manager.

Most of the dealers now have "express lube" programs to compete with the local oil changers. NONE of these places should touch our EcoDiesels.

Either watch the dealer or do it yourself, that seems to be the required method.

Every diesel I've owned stains the oil black almost immediately. I doubt it'll ever look anything but black after operating a few miles. That doesn't help determine if they let it drain 30 minutes, unfortunately.

Ya they made me pull into their express lane after I tried to avoid it lol. Double checked my invoice and it shows qty. 8 and before I left work this evening I checked the dip stick (forgot to this morning while the engine was cold) and it was at the max fill line so I feel a little better. Probably will attempt the oil change on my own in the future.

Thanks, that's good to know! This is my first diesel so wasn't sure if that was normal.

Re: First oil change some info and comments

I bought the recommended F106, per their website. I did get the one with the short nipple and hose as I can aim it into my container rather than have it splash out !

I will be changing the oil next week and replacing the drain plug with the Fumoto.
