Re: First oil change some info and comments

I'm about to do my first oil change and was wondering if there's a good write up for doing this?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

See the very first post of this thread. That was the entire point of this thread, to provide helpful directions.

Re: First oil change some info and comments

My dealer did the change on mine and it was $120 total. Can't turn that down where I can go grab a good breakfast next door and relax.

Just make sure he does it correctly. My dealer charges similar rate. On my 1st change the GM came out to the waiting launge to apologize for the long wait because "per jeep's instructions the system needs to drain". This was a good sign that the tech at least reads TSB's.

Re: First oil change some info and comments

After the oil and filter have been replaced, is there any special process to refill the oil? I read from a post to fill 6 qt's through the filter housing then fill through the oil refill? Thanks

Re: First oil change some info and comments

I spoke to the Service Manager and they normally get most of the non Ram HD diesels in the area as they have 3 Techs who are very knowledgeable on them. Also reason why they charge a good price as they have more volume for these services.

Fill up using 8qts via the filler cap and then wait 20 mins before starting the motor. No secret handshake or ceremony needed other than that

Re: First oil change some info and comments

I've read the TSB and it doesn't say to wait after filling for the 1st start. Have you read anything about wait after filling?

Not in the TSB, per say, but you can find the warning in the maintenance section of wk2jeeps: "WARNING: Any time the oil is drained and filled it is critical to wait 15 minutes before starting the engine."
