Thanks. I figured the price would go down with all the Rams out there. I should have skipped economics in college; apparently it was a waste of time.

You sure about that? I think it is the other way around, right? See link below:

Nope !

Per mopar.com, part 68229402AA has superseded the other one. It's still egregiously expensive though.

It would be nice if we could get the OP modified to reflect that. There's a lot of confusion surrounding the matter.

Huh. Interesting - in an effort to clarify everything, that guy just made it more confusing. So the HIGHER part number is the correct (new) part. Makes sense that the numbers go up as new parts are added to inventory. Thanks.

I'm open to the possibility of third party filters somehow offering superior performance if that can be documented, but I'm not perceiving the risk/reward value if these $29 third party filters are supposed to be a cost-saving measure.

I'll let others try this experiment.

Gotcha...just curious. The eBay filter you are using as your example is not the correct part number. Now that is something I wouldn't risk.

I have never used an OEM filter on any of my cars before...and one of them is $150 - 200 per oil change ( not DIY). Hopefully at some point a real aftermarket filter company will produce some competition worth utilizing.

$60 dealer priced filters are due to sole source market greed.

Not sure what are you looking at to verify the part number, but according to mopar.com 68229402AA is the correct PN for oil filter for the EXF platform (EcoDiesel) and costs $60 there.

Exactly, and that settles the matter. When Chrysler's own parts outlet says part number 68229402AA supersedes 68109834AA, it's canonical (thanks, timmy_, for clearing that up for us in the other thread).

If you examine the eBay listing, you'll find it is indeed for part 68229402AA, which is the current, correct part number.

Re: First oil change – some info and comments

I have business in China, I requested one of our employees to check and see if this part is available directly from MOPAR'S white label factory, just curious on price difference. Will let you all know.
