Re: First oil change some info and comments

This morning I was at the dealer for a AIR CABIN FILTER TSB and a new MIL, I took the time to ask the parts guy, '' ...how much Oil do you charge or put in the Eco Diesel JGC?...'' He replied ''...well it's 10L...'' When I told him that he should check again and that 7.7L were required ( At dry ) he started telling me I had no clue and he showed me some documents from FCA stating that it required 10L...Strange that everywhere I read, all point to 7.7L...God, another good reason why I DIY! The guy was totally frustrated by my nonbelief. Can't wait to go back and bring him some printed proof...

Absolutely understand the rationale for DIY. I got a Mopar coupon for a $49* oil change for my EcoDiesel, which is about half the price of DIY. No thanks... I'm not even certain I would accept a free oil change (I'd take a free filter and oil, though).

BTW, per the manual it's your choice whether the EcoDiesel officially takes 7.7 or 7.6 L of oil. Heh. I guess no one told Chrysler that unit conversions have real definitions.

Yeah, when I told him to check the manual, he said, '' I go by what Chrysler sends me on tech sheets ''.... When I drained the GC, I left it for 2hrs to make sure it was dry and I had just shy of 7.7L of old oil...so, hard to dispute that!

Rule #1.

Never let facts get in the way of a good story.
Especially as they'd be charging for the volume of oil supplied, or SUPPOSEDLY supplied.

I wouldn't trust many dealerships to do the right thing. I've heard too many bad stories, including from one of my son's friends who is a foreman/supervisor at the local (LARGE) Toyota dealer.

Sounds like he may be confusing your GC with the Ram ecodiesel which takes about 10 liters of motor oil.

Thats what I thought at first, but I saw some documents and this was under JGC Eco 2014...so nope. I still think that this is some ''in house'' document...but who knows...

Re: First oil change some info and comments

Just a note of caution. A dealer I used last week used Mopar:5166241PA which is Penzoil Platinum for my oil change. This was after we discussed using Euro-L with the proper specifications. Until I researched the part number, the dealer had me convinced they used the right oil. I brought my Jeep into another dealer this morning and they verified it is indeed the wrong oil and will be replacing it. Folks, check the part number on your dealer work order and make sure they are using the right oil. Better yet, find a quality dealer!

Mine actually listed "5w-30 synthetic blend" on the invoice, however the part number was correct for the euro L stuff. Gave me a good scare.

I got another Mopar coupon for a $49.95 "diesel truck" oil change. I wonder if I can just go to the dealer and have them hand me the filter + 8 quarts of oil. There's no way I will let someone else change my oil, but I would definitely consider getting the materials for a half-price oil change.

OEM part number 68001334PB

Edit: Sorry, I wasn't clear, that's the part number for the pennzoil Euro L, which is the factory fill. They also have a Mobile1 oil that meets chryslers specs too, but my dealer only carries the pennzoil.
