Re: First oil change – some info and comments

Completely off topic, but did anyone else notice that Chrysler in their TSB called the diesel the "2014 WK Grand Cherokee SFU" .... I wonder if they borrowed the SFU designation from us here?

Be careful crawling under the with the suspension up as the vehicle can lower after a little while on its own when the engine is off. If you disable the suspension through the radio it won't move. Also if you leave the door open the vehicle wont lower...I know it sounds crazy....but I'm telling you its true...this is my second Jeep with the air suspension and it will do it all the time from the normal ride height to the parked ride height while sitting within 5-10 minutes of parking and all doors are closed. I dont know for sure about Off-RD 1&2 heights if it will lower from there once the engine is shut off....so please be careful.

Re: First oil change – some info and comments

Many of you are paying outrageous prices for oil for these trucks. If you buy your oil from the dealer its much cheaper. I believe the MSRP is $7 and some change for each quart. Its Pennzoil Ultra 5W-30 Euro L. (it must have the Euro L). I got it for around $6.33 a quart the dealer prices aren't that bad as compared to other places...believe me I shopped around looking for the best deal and the dealer had it.

EDIT: according to the wk2jeeps.com the MSRP is $7.85 a qt. http://www.wk2jeeps.com/wk2_maintenance.htm#ENGOIL

FYI
I checked this out too. The stuff I found there was not the correct oil. The Mobil 1 Oil must be the ESP Formula (make sure its the one with the light green lid, the gold one is the wrong oil) and it meets the the same MS11106 Chrysler standard/ACEA C3. The 5W-30 Extended Performance does not meet that standard.

We used to have two options Mobil 1 and Shell, but now only Mobil 1.
Penzoil is not sold here. You can import it, but it’s not worth the hassle.

It's a big assumption that all dealers use the same oil and charge the same price.

Of course, since so far my oil changes have been free, I don't know what my dealer charges.

No, assumption Chrysler sets the MSRP not the dealers. I got mine at a discount is why it was under at the $6 and change. These are also stateside prices not export prices.

If your saying that all Chrysler dealers use the same oil, I stand corrected. My experience with (non Chrysler) dealers it that they buy whatever oil they want for use in the shop.

Re: First oil change – some info and comments

This is a common point of note here in Aus, that most dealers do not use MS-11106 compliant oil. They do use full synth low ash stuff, that is probably just as good, but technically not fully approved.
However if your dealer is doing the service, and you aren’t planning on keeping the car well past its warranty, then it is of not too much concern. Their service, their oil, there duty of care.

I dont know if they do, I just know that they have a part number for it and what their MSRP is for the part number. You're probably correct all of them don't carry the same oil. I know how picky Chrysler is when it comes to using the correct oil and making sure its meeting a certain MS standard.

I thought it was surprising too...Your guess is a good as mine lol. I think I did some more short trips but no drastic changes, and yeah it is colder so I guess that's it..??..

I noticed it too. I thought SFU was made up on here but maybe its a legitimate Chrysler term that people are having fun with...I'm all confused
