I dont know for sure about Off-RD 1&2 heights if it will lower from there once the engine is shut off....so please be careful.
Maybe I'll just use the fluid extractor like I use on my other car just to be safe.

That's what I will do. Maybe pull the plug after to see if any residual left behind. Surprisingly, on both our MB you can suck more out with the MityVac than you can get out by pulling the plug.

Re: First oil change some info and comments

Just changed out the break-in oil on my diesel. The info from the original poster was very helpful. There definitely was a lot of oil in the filter housing. 8qts is definitely perfect NOT 9qts like was mentioned also.

When i reset the oil life indicator in the EVIC i first tried the procedure listed for "diesel (export model)" and it did not reset anything. Then i used the other '3 gas pedal depression' procedure. The mileage since last reset zeroed out when i did that but the "73% oil life" number has not changed or reset to 100%. Is that normal?

Thanks.

Re: First oil change some info and comments

that doesn't sound right, it should go right back to 100%

I would try the reset procedure again..

just curious, how many miles did you have on it when you changed the oil?

Re: First oil change some info and comments

I tried the reset procedure twice at first. Both times it just reset miles since last reset but did not reset the oil life percentage. Then later that day i tried the reset 3 more times. The first two times it also only reset the miles and not the percentage but the 3rd time (5th try overall) it finally reset them both.

I had about 900 miles on it. Best to get the early break-in oil and filter out of there. Judging by the fact that the oil life indicator was at 73% with less than 1000 miles on the car it seems the system was reading the break-in oil as more contaminated (for lack of a better term) than most oil change intervals because it would have barely made 3500 miles before triggering an alert if it stayed at that rate of oil life percentage decline. Assuming it has to get to zero to trigger the change oil alert but it may trigger before it gets to zero, anybody know?

Mine doesn't do that (lowering). I have had it at OR2 height for ten hours, or so, while working under it both yesterday and today. (I usually had a jack stand under just in case.) Engine off and doors closed.

Re: First oil change some info and comments

For what it is worth I stopped at the dealer to see what price for the Pennzoil Euro L 5W30 and they wanted 9.40 L plus tax. Others have scored in the 6 dollar range which I think was a dealer mistake.
I ordered 24 L from this place
Pennzoil Ultra Euro L 5W-30 Full Synthetic Motor Oil
for 198 bucks shipped. That works out to about 8.25 L which is expensive but as cheap as I could find.
I hope to be in at Auto Zone or Advanced Auto when they run some Mobil sales in the future but the above location was as cheap as anyplace I could find.
Not a premium member of Amazon or could have got it there cheaper.
Hope this helps others looking for some oil...

Re: First oil change some info and comments

As an update my oil arrived today. 24 quarts for 198 bucks shipped which works out to 8.25 a quart. Not cheap but no tax and free shipping. This should take me down the road a good ways...
Site is posted above if you are interested and I am not affiliated with at all but they delivered my oil in good shape...

Re: First oil change some info and comments

Those of you who will be taking your Jeep to the dealer to get your oil change may want to call first to be sure that they have an oil filter. The closest dealer with a filter is 50 miles away from me. It sounds like there is a bigger demand than was initially anticipated.

That's because of all the people changing their oil way before it is necessary.

Re: First oil change some info and comments

I think for the filters Malhe or Mann will eventually be available since that is what is available for the Merc diesel. Those are the most common cartridge filter manufacturers in Europe and the high prices will come down. What I have seen this filter isn't anything special just the limited availability drives the price up.

I am planning oil analysis for the first and 2nd changes and that will give me an indication of when to change. YMMV
