I tried a 2" pvc test cap without the green ring on tonight. It wont fit over the metal ring. SC, does that cap fit right over the metal ring?

I just got the filler neck in from the dealer and its the exact part number for both 2014-2015. Also, the pic you posted in the other thread showing the green plastic diesel identifier with tape measure, i confirmed with mine that is the same exact size.

Tried the cap again and it does fit over the metal ring with the green part removed. Tight but the cap I'm sure can be stretched a bit.

So with a cap on there, is there alternate venting for the filler somewhere? Not sure if it could cause any issues.

Yes there is. You just can't see it. There's a one way check valve on a line that is part of the filler tube. I know because I have the assembly in my hands.

Re: Fix for capless filler

Had some 3m scotch Brite leftover from another project so took a stab with the stencil and made a sticker for the rubber cap. Need to work on the circle and spacing but at least another reminder of what I need to fill it with for now

Nice job...fits over the ring. Gotta work it on a bit. A month later and it works great.

Re: Fix for capless filler

Anybody tried one of these?
The one in the pic is on a Ram Ecodiesel and apparently a diff size, but they are also available in various sizes...Home Depot or Home Hardware.

Does that car have a capless filler, or is that the typical cap holder used while filling up?

The car is a 2015 so i would guess capless filler. Also a typical cap holder will have the top of cap facing away from the door. When i enlarge the photo on my pc i can see the top of cap is against the door.It looks like a peace of rubber(dish shaped)and when you close the door it will cover the filler tube.

I'll try to find out more.

Re: Fix for capless filler

I think what most ppl want and need is the sealer / gasket to be separate from the door for the fact that turbulence alone will flex the door In turn flexing the sealer/ gasket.
