My CRD GC is my daily driver and my commute is a short one at 5-7 miles per day on city streets. Ever since Day 1 and Mile 1 I've logged every gallon ever put into it. Thought I'd share my data here. Here's a picture of the log book's current page:
Unfortunately that doesn't look like too decent a photo from my old iPad2. My rig just turned 20,000 miles the other day, and yesterday at 20,198 miles I filled the tank. It was my 50th fillup, so I'm averaging 404 miles per tankful. I love the GC's range.
So far here are some running totals (I keep a programmable calculator with the log book for the running totals and lifetime MPG):
. ► 20,198 total miles, 905.176 total gallons ==> 22.314 MPG overall, combined city/highway miles (short commute, 5-7 miles per day on city streets)
. ► $3,240.08 in total fuel costs ==> $0.1604 per mile in fuel costs (16.04 cents per mile) on expensive California fuel!
. ► 50 fillups ==> 404 miles per tankful, average
. ► 26.21 MPG: The highest MPG for an entire tankful was 26.21 MPG; 549 miles, 20.945 gallons.
. ► 17.91 MPG: The lowest MPG for an entire tankful was 17.91 MPG; 371 miles, 20.719 gallons.
I previously reported in another thread (here: http://www.jeepgarage.org/f222/eco-diesel-mileage-78917-4.html#post1150323; post #155 in the thread)...
... that some excellent MPGs are achievable in our CRDs:
. ► 25 MPG at a steady-state 85 MPH
. ► 28 MPG at a steady-state 75 MPH
. ► 34 MPG at a steady-state 65 MPH
. ► 45 MPG at a steady-state 55 MPH
I have not yet gotten anything close to that for an entire tankful, but at some point in the hopefully near future I will go for it. I'd like to record getting over 30 MPG or better for 500 miles on a tankful, but it will take patience because I like to drive fast.
One final point: I get lower MPGs than I should because I do drive fast. On the highways I'm at 5-10 MPH faster than traffic, which in turn is 5-10 MPH over the limit where I drive, so I'm usually cruising at 80-85 in a 65 MPH zone. It's an old motorcycling habit, done for safety's sake.
