Fuel pump noise

Anybody else have a slight whine coming from their fuel pump? The noise is most noticeable from standing near the rear driver side door when the car is running but if I turn the radio off I can hear it coming from the back of the car from the inside.

Is this normal!?!?'

I should add I can only hear the whine when at idle while sitting at a light or waiting in traffic....

Re: Fuel pump noise

You really should stay in your car at stoplights and/or in traffic

Fuel pump noise

I just recently started hearing this as well. It is a high-pitched whine coming from the left rear of the vehicle near the fuel door and wheel well area. Any answer to this? I was wondering if it might be the def tank pump kicking in during a regeneration cycle.

Re: Fuel pump noise

DEF usage is independent of regen (it is used for NOx reduction and has nothing to do with the DPF). On most DEF equipped vehicles, the DEF pump will run for 10 to 15 seconds AFTER you turn the vehicle off to purge the system. Listening for this is a good way to determine what your DEF pump sounds like. Both of my diesels (different manufacturers) have DEF pumps that make slightly "growling" sound when they're running.
