I've had the same experience trying to use a truck pump, seems the noodle is bigger in diameter and doesn't push deep enough to open the capless design..

Never had this issue on the vw bug tdi, it had a cap and filler noozle big enough for any pump..

Re: Fueling Issue. Got Me Twice Now.

I bought the Amazon adapter and actually used it a couple days ago. There are at least three nozzle sizes and two don't fit. One won't go in at all, the other goes in but not far enough to open the flap. The TDI adapter works with both of the larger nozzles, you just have to fill more slowly. Around home I'll figure out which stations have the smaller size, but it's nice having the adapter if ever on a trip and need fuel from a place with only larger nozzles. Easier to use the adapter than go searching diesel pumps/stations for the smaller nozzle.

That being said I just ordered it. 12 bucks to not worry. Thanks for the post.

Re: Fueling Issue. Got Me Twice Now.

keep in mind the fast fill pumps actually flow much more fuel, so you might find the antisplash back continuously clicking the pump off

That's not the problem I had when using the adapter. If I went too fast, fuel would start to "back up" instead of going through the adapter to the tank. If you went so fast that it shut off, I expect you'd have diesel all over you first. The adapter is fine in a pinch, just take it slow.

Re: Fueling Issue. Got Me Twice Now.

I've never been a gas station that offered diesel, that if it had a large nozzle pump, there wasn't a small nozzle pump nearby. You just have to check all the pumps.

I have! Cortland, NY has one. Large nozzle pump off by itself, no other diesel pumps, I looked. I admit it seems to be rare. The only other time I ran into a large nozzle there was an alternative.

Re: Fueling Issue. Got Me Twice Now.

I have run across the range of nozzles in my trips up and down the east coast.

The larger nozzles are called "high Volume pumps" for filling commercial trucks with large fuel tanks stations I have run across usually advertise they have high volume pumps available.

It would take forever to fill saddle tanks on commercial trucks and semi's with regular flow nozzles.

My wife drives 13 Jetta TDI and it has an upside down spring loaded "U" that is sometimes a pain to get a nozzle into the filler neck, you must use the nozzle of the pump to raise the spring loaded mechanism to insert the nozzle. My wife has had problems as she is only 5'1" 120lbs and does not have the leverage to do both raise the spring and insert the nozzle simultaneously.

This is suppose to prevent accidental filling of diesels with gas because their nozzles do not fit with this
mechanism in the filler neck tube.

I purchase 3 of the adapters one for each of our vehicles.
