Fueling Issue. Got Me Twice Now.

Has anyone encountered when fueling at a diesel pump, the pump is simply too big to fit in your jeep? The first time it happened to me, I inserted the pump as far as it could go, squeezed the handle, and got diesel fuel all over myself and my vehicle. It simply doesn't fit.

My concern is this---If I'm on a long road trip and have this problem again at a diesel fueling station, I'll be forced to find another station simply because the pump won't fit in my Jeep.

Anyone else?

Never had any problems. Usually fill up at local Shell. Maybe it's the angle? Someone on another post suggest something like this:

Amazon.com: TDI Diesel Fuel Nozzle Adapter: Automotive

maybe throw that in the truck somewhere.

It's not the angle for sure. The pump itself is just too large to fit in the fueling hole. I'm wondering how many others have had this issue. Frustrating to say the least.

i believe there's also a funnel with the spare tire if you were really in an emergency. but i can't imagine that would be a clean option either.

Never had this issue. Filled up at your average-type gas station - Chevron and Shell, mostly.

Filling up in a big rig pump is a touch-and-go thing. Sometimes it will fit, sometimes not. I always fill at the diesel RV lanes (usually the last lane in the gasser row). The pump nozzle in the RV lane is same/smaller than the gas lane ones. You can find those lanes in almost any mainstream filling station.

Both times it happened to me, neither was at a truck stop. One was at a Kangaroo station in North Carolina and the other time was a regular, run of the mill Exxon here in Pennsylvania.

Re: Fueling Issue. Got Me Twice Now.

Some stations have a large pump for fueling big rigs w/large tanks but they almost allways have a pump with a small handle.

Re: Fueling Issue. Got Me Twice Now.

My local station has both the larger/high volume pumps as well as the "normal" size that fits our EcoDiesels. Check before you pump! I still stuff a couple of paper towels below the filler neck to catch any minor spills or drips.

Not sure I'm a fan of the capless fuel filler. I won't be using the large nozzle again!
As you can see, I was a casualty of the large nozzle the first time I tried to use it.

Ok. Glad I'm not alone. Has anyone tried the adapter sold on Amazon that was posted in this thread?
