There's definitely a market. Perhaps sourcing/delivering the solution from outside the US is in order?

Re: Full custom tuning in the works

All they need to state in their sale documents is "for off road use only" and then they should be clear of any defeat device and it's the owners liability if they get caught.

Re: Full custom tuning in the works

I'm not sure I would delete the DPF until it fails. I like the lack of smoke and not having black grit all over my bumper. Now the SCR system (CAT/DEF)...I would rip that crap off in a heartbeat. What a pain!

Re: Full custom tuning in the works

With the previous CRD I had a DPF delete and mine did not have any soot or black smoke coming out of the exhaust even with the GDE EcoTune (440 ft lb torque). A modern diesel engine (unlike the HD rams cummins) engines are built very clean and run much hotter than normal diesels so they create less emissions outright.

Re: Full custom tuning in the works

My Cummins does NOT have any black soot on the side or back of it and it hasn't had any EPA junk on it since day one.
A properly tuned Diesel should NOT 'roll coal' as the kids say.

Re: Full custom tuning in the works

You know, I would probably prefer to keep the SCR and delete the DPF, albeit with a few tweaks to the SCR system to make it less of a princess.

As far as I understand it, the urea ameliorates the traditional diesel smell. The DPF, however, is just a pain in the ass that robs fuel efficiency and performance.

ETA: Haha, apparently I'm wrong about the SCR. I'd rip them both out.

Re: Full custom tuning in the works

I agree that modern street diesels are tuned for minimal smoke. However, any tuned diesel that has really good (best possible) off idle performance will be tuned to the point where it overfuels slightly and therefore soots. The laws of physics can't be broken. If our beloved diesels don't emit soot, then what are we catching and incinerating in our DPFs?

Granted, most tunes are setup to be street friendly and the fuel maps are leaner off idle to prevent smoke...but best response and least lag tuning will produce some smoke. Watch the modern diesels run on the track or pull. They smoke until the turbo meets demand.

My old Mercedes doesn't roll smoke but I can see a light haze if the sunlight is at a low angle behind me...and a white glove test reveals soot on the bumper accumulated over time. The newer ones are much cleaner, I'm sure.

Has anyone else noticed that our GC Diesels have extremely clean tailpipes? I'm amazed. I was showing a guy how clean and we wiped the inside tailpipe of a few new gassers sitting close by...black soot. My GC was clean. Amazing.

Re: Full custom tuning in the works

Edit
Oh yes, I know all about "lighting up the turbo", but it sounds like my Cummins runs pretty much like your Benz. very little soot. Now, I only run a timing box on the truck and it's a nice kick in the pants, but there's more in it if I fueled.... I.E. If I ever get around to installing the 100hp injectors, I'm sure I'll have plenty of off idle smoke.

As for the Eco.. it is pretty cool how it puts out no soot, no smell, etc... it's truly a clean diesel at the expense of MPG/Power

/Edit

Cleaner than gasser tails. Especially direct injection turbo gassers. Think Ford Eco Boost

Re: Full custom tuning in the works

SRC don't affect the diesel smell. My E-class has only cat and nothing else and you can't smell diesel fumes but if I switch to the straight pipe is like old smelly truck. It does blow some soot out when I step on the gas that is been accumulated in the rear silencers but not much.

Yeah, I see just now that the mobile app doesn't render the strikeout I had in that previous post. Hm... wonder why the styles aren't supported?
