There are also an inordinate number of failures due to the DPF and SCR. Mine sits in the shop as we speak with DEF related issues.

This is exactly the issue I'm hoping we'll have a fix for. The SCR system Jeep added is fragile, the electronics too sensitive, and it seems the entire system was not properly vetted by Jeep. In addition it seems that in 2014 we still have DPF related issues (these have been standard light duty diesel items since 2007). Jeep doesn't seem to give a shit as I dinged them hard with a nhtsa complaint and noted the case # in my new car survey. Defeating these emissions controls in order to make the vehicle reliable as they are the achilles heel thus far. Who of us wants to get a dreaded 200 mile til shutdown message b/c you drove through a puddle on the highway or drove down a gravel road faster than 10 mph and broke the flimsy injector / harness that's located near a wheel well with no protection?

As for power - I'm completely sated and don't need anymore especially in a 5k lb SUV. Just want the reliability that we know this engine has but for these short sighted / poorly designed emissions add-ons.

Re: Full custom tuning in the works

All interested: I'm very interested in a ecu programming capability to remove dpf and/or scr to improve the reliability as several of the us have indicated.
This is not the first offering for this, supposedly Celtic Tuning, UK; is offering this capability thru a US rep (Stang678) I think.
I have pm'd with him but never fully get the questions answered, as some others have.
Looking fwd to a programming feature coming to the market to improve the JGC.

Looking at ordering the Steinbauer box for tuning - regardless of/if dpf/scr delete becomes available. 3x the money of the Bluespark, but IMO a more correct way of tuning, they do not mess with the rail pressure, is adjustable and offers a remote switch (hardwire or wireless) to turn tuning on or off.

Re: Full custom tuning in the works

I am can't wait to pick one up and get it over to GDE ASAP for tuning. I got my eye on one and just need to unload one thing then I should have one and it will probably sit most of its early life in pieces.

I've never played with something like EFILive before. Are you saying that this gives you access to all of the code that runs the vehicle as well as the fuel maps? I write code for automation systems for a living. If this is possible it wouldn't be hard for me to learn the syntax of the code and be able to alter all sorts of things. If it is logic blocks like PLC controllers use then it would be real simple to disable just about anything.

Hey Christian,
Figured you'd move over to the EcoDiesel - doing another DPF delete option?

Its NOT PLC code. I wish it was! Most of the editors I've seen map the tuning variables into editable tables...kind of like looking at raw data tables in a SLC500 or PLC5. The actual logic that uses that data is not exposed. Typically the EPA crap is bypassed by setting the limits in the tables out of normal ranges to defeat them. I'm an Automation Engineer and the automotive controls world seriously lags the technology available to industry from a usability/modification standpoint. Its more akin to proprietary embedded controls. Too bad, huh?

There has to be a way to see and edit the logic. The problem is getting your hands on the proprietary software. The funny thing is the ECM is probably made by Siemens and I couldn't even get my hands on it even though I work for them.

Its a Bosch designed ECU...no telling what embedded OS is used. Its probably a proprietary RTOS. I suspect the code is also compiled. The tables are binary blobs that companies like EFIlive map into viewable tables for manipulation. I doubt they edit the operating logic but I'd love to hear from someone "in the know"...not a hacker that reverse engineers a few map table locations.

Re: Full custom tuning in the works

To my Siemens brother:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1...ming-languages

Looks like the code is most likely compiled C on a proprietary RTOS. Even with an editor, you would need the source if a decompiler isn't available...sounds messy.
