Out of curiosity, what are you going to do with the DPF/SCR delete and tune. If they detect you've been hacking hardware/software it might be tough to get them to buy it back. Hopefully you can return it to stock!

Mine shuddered like yours with the Bluespark tuning box. I took it off and it got better. Got the latest tranny TSB and it's been shudder free. It might shudder again with the tuner reinstalled since it shifts earlier with more torque. Tuning seemed to change power delivery enough to shift at different points...due to less applied throttle I guess.

I am 99% sure I know the issue. But I'll let you know after the whole situation is over.

Re: Full custom tuning in the works

I just sent a message to Precision Industries. They make some of the best torque converters on the market. I asked them if they might consider making an improved TC for the 8HP70. They are located close to me. I have their TC in my tuned Superduty. It is amazing how much better it drives.

The issue we are having is a well documented problem with low rpm high torque 8hp70 applications. The Torque converter has special springs that dampen torsional vibrations created when the lock up clutch engages. They are bottoming out and creating the shudder. The programming on our Jeeps has the lock up clutches engaging early with lower shift points for maximum economy. The transmission is a direct drive with no slip after the lock up occurs. The VM3.0 is then directly engaged with no slip and at lower RPMs, can shudder just like a manual transmission will do if the clutch is abruptly engaged. A tuner seems to make things worse due to more torque at low RPMs.

Full custom tuning in the works

Any idea when we will be able to disable EGR??? No EGR means lots less soot in our oil. Who cares if the egt will be higher as a result ... we have DEF to counteract the increased ozone... Even with out the def ..No EGR will give us better MPG thus adding less pollution to the air

I read that the new maserati diesel uses our engine and is tuned to 275hp. Has anyone investigated what is in their tune? Also, they have something called "active sound"exhaust that sounds awesome. What does that mean, like it has exhaust valves that open/close to manage a sound? It would be amazing to have my truck sound like that but I assume it's prohibitively expensive

The tuner boxes like BlueSpark available for our VM3.0 are making 307 hp at their highest setting if their data can be believed.

With the TURBO, DPF and CAT obstructing exhaust flow, our diesels will NEVER be loud even if you cut the mufflers off. Now deleting the DPF/CAT/MUFFLERS and straight piping it...that would open up the sound.
