No the problem is the same with anything really. If you get a base 2wd vehicle with no options you get better payload.

A Laramie Limited or Laramie Longhorn with a Hemi only has a payload of 1084lbs. It is only 881lbs on the Diesel.

It is simple, the heavier the truck with options the less you can have payload wise.

Now you see why I tow a 7200 pound trailer with my Jeep over a half ton... I can bring my wife and dogs

So I can't bring the wife if I have a half ton? Can I borrow your truck?

I agree the problem is systemic. I was thinking more along the lines of the dedicated haulers, like dualies with massive payloads. Tongue weight is not a huge consideration when the payloads are already pretty high.

Lol.... Or we loose weight as you said.

I have a tongue weight scale so that I can load my trailer accordingly for different towing situations. I did tow this trailer with my Mercedes ML320 bit it was a PAIN in the but to set it up close to spec. It was marginally over but the Jeep sets up nice.

Thats a good point on that particular road. I wonder if they would have had much better luck still letting the computer do the thinking, but taking it out of ECO mode to get better gear ranges for climbing and passing.

The "I-70 Test" is pretty severe as the road is good enough for speed, yet it is a tad steep and infested with "rolling roadblocks" sleeping in the passing lanes.
