You need to be careful swapping out the parts. South of the equator the Coriolis effect is opposite that of the regions north of the equator. For example North American drains spin their water clockwise where your's should spin anti-clockwise. This affects a force on a trailer pulled behind a vehicle, especially when it travels from East to West or West to East. The effect is greater as the vehicle gets closer to the poles. The Canadians on this website can tell you all about this. In any case, using the receiver for a auto designed for the opposite hemisphere can be quite dangerous. I wouldn't do it! As far as why it costs more, that is plain old economics and not physics.
