Re: green diesel engineering tune

Don't get me wrong, I would love to have more power and efficiency. $750 isn't a lot of coin. Just right now the 2014 is going through a teething period and who knows what TSB awaits. So the concept of locking my OBD port or going back and forth between TSB, reflash, he said she said. I just don't want the hassle on DD. Got a 997TT for that already.

I don't understand the problem? It breaks even in 3 years, you're ahead after that AND you get more HP and torque? That seems like a no brainier to me.

Now if you don't want to play the flash game, ok, I get that, but otherwise I don't see the issue.

Re: green diesel engineering tune

I'm not a guy that has ever spent this much money purchasing a car. I told my wife that she has to drive this car until we give it to my daughter for her 16th birthday. My daughter is currently 3.

Personally I take very good care of my vehicles and I see no issue running a car for many years. My 13 year old Powerstroke was better than new when I sold it.

So for me, this is 50% about longevity, 25% about mpg, and 25% about the power.

Ive had some smoky diesels in my past and I don't consider it an option any longer. I want clean air, no smoke, and low noise. So deletes are not an option for me.

As far as paying for it, my wife doesn't ask what I do in that garage! I won't even mention it to her unless she mentions the extra power.

After putting about 50 miles on it I think your wife wouldn't know by driving if she didn't floor it. It's very well mannered, I mean drives nice and smooth like it did stock.

For me, I really like the ~90% reduction in EGR use and drastic reduction of DEF use.

Farfromovin - did you do the ECM exchange or just send yours in? How long did the whole process take. Just trying to figure out how long we would have to run with one car while the ECM is out and being flashed.

Once you contact GDE with your codes and order the ECU it will be shipped to you. After you install the new ECU you send your original back to GDE to get your core deposit back. You won't be down a vehicle.

Re: green diesel engineering tune

Thanks. I thought it was best for them to get info from your ecu first then flash. Wasn't sure if it was better for them to flash your original ecu vs another persons ecu that they got back as a core. Does it matter either way?

Technically it does not matter. If you prefer to ship in your ecm, send it USPS Express and we will return it the same way. That typically means the vehicle will only be down 2 days total. We try to get ecms turned around same day as received.

Right, but I think he was asking if it matters if there is a mismatching ECU in the vehicle? Are they serialized (physically or digitally) to the vehicle's VIN? Will there be some conflict due to protection parameters?

The VIN is installed in the ecm, that is what mates it to the vehicle. We can change the VIN on any ecm to match the customer's vehicle. Without the VIN, the engine will shut off after 3 seconds.

Re: green diesel engineering tune

anyone else with the Hot Tune have anything to add? Anyone hear a turbo in there whistle? Anyone else experience a change in engine and or exhaust sound? Got mine on order. Sad Jeep in my garage without an ECU.

Chad - I'm excited for you and can't wait to hear how you like it. I plan to do this in a couple weeks. Just don't have downtime available right now with work travel. Looking forward to real world feedback.
