Congrats. Please let us know what you think.

When will you have your ECU? Did you order the engine braking option? I am still undecided on that as I only tow 2-3 times a year.

After reading the article on the EGR, I am closer to buying than ever before.

Re: green diesel engineering tune

I will definitely share my thoughts but as it's my wife's car I'm not going to say anything to her and see if she notices anything at all. Probably won't. I'll share my thoughts in time. We always end up right at 24.6mpg, all city driving for mileage, with every single tank. So that will be an important indicator as well.

They ship it 2 day air for $12 to TX. So I'll have the weekend to install it if they got it out today. It was sort of a rash mid-day decision and they asked several questions so it's clear to me they don't just throw it in a box when the order comes in.

Yes, I purchased the engine braking option (along with the regen notification) but only after asking many questions to verify it would not be a bother in day to day driving. We likely won't use the Jeep for towing, just the occassional ski trip (is the plan). It's just my nature to get all the goodies I guess.

I sell Kenworth trucks so I'm pretty knowledgable about the working of the emissions and their related problems. In short, the guys at GDE pretty much said ALL of the right things without forcing me to consider an undesirable (to me) delete kit. As a guy that has owned deleted diesels before, I actually want emissions, clean air, quiet driving, etc... I just did't want to suffer so much for it (3 dealer visits, in 5K miles!

I was in your shoes a few weeks ago, my wife was barking we don't need it if Jeep don't provide it as an option. We have it now and both very much love what our Jeep has become. Would I do it again.....YES!

You won't regret it. I got the engine braking and regen messaging as well. Braking is smooth and not a deliberate downshift to engage.

So how is progress on the new handheld tuner coming along?

Thanks. What's your favorite parts? Maybe we can build a top 3 as I am sure there are many! Seems well thought out and engineered. I love hearing everyone's feedback and appreciate this forum!

For me it is tip in throttle response, this truck no longer drives on a delay and more pedal input translates to too much oomph. Also the power band feels bigger so its just more pleasurable to drive. The second has to be the elimination of EGR. It is already causing huge problems for Chrysler with far too frequent regens blowing up the SCR catalyst.

The easiest way to tame the acceleration in ACC is to lock your Jeep into 8th gear via the shift paddles.

I will also cancel ACC when following a semi that has switched lanes to pass a slower vehicle, because ACC can get confused for a moment: when changing into the left lane it will start to accelerate but it will brake a few seconds later due to overzealous acceleration. That's a bit annoying so in that scenario I cancel ACC before the lane change and then resume ACC once the lane change is complete.

Between these two tactics ACC stays quite smooth for me. Give it a shot.
Mine completely ignores gear selection in manual mode with ACC active. My transmission is convinced that 5th gear is needed @ 75mph to pass anyone...

Is this sport mode you're using?

The answer to your second question is far more subjective. If I'm in a playful mood, it will beg you for more and is so much more fun to drive now. However, if I'm commuting, have passengers, talking on the phone, etc. it drives nice and smooth like the tune itself is factory. It certainly doesn't have any high strung nature to it. It's actually more reassuring to drive now because it does what I want it to do, instead of flooring the pedal and waiting for it to do something like before.

No fuel additives here either.
I'll always question WHY FCA just couldn't get the damn jeep to drive smooth (like what i'm hearing from those with the GDE) from the factory... why does this damn thing have to hesitate at all? Anyone? It's almost got me rear ended a few times.

EGR robs power and the stupid Eco mode that retards fly by wire throttle to meet MPG target. Except when the SCR doesn't get hot enough to burn off soot, fuel is added, which drives down MPG. Either FCA is terrible at tuning or they went Ultra conservative. So who knows.

Re: green diesel engineering tune

Does our little Diesel still need an Oil Catch Can with the Hot Tune flashed ECU?
