Re: green diesel engineering tune

Hmm, about to order the tune. Wonder if I should take the Jeep into the dealer one last time to have them apply any needed updates. But I guess it wouldn't matter if the GDE tune just overwrites the ECU anyway. Maybe more of an issue for any trans flashes.

Is there any online way to check if your vehicle needs any flashes? I guess my largest concern having a 2014 is this new cylinder head issue. I don't have any symptoms, I wonder if the GDE tune would help stave that off not requiring new heads?

Anything with an RRT would be considered "mandatory" by the dealer. It's not exactly a recall, but dealers are supposed to close out any RRTs when the vehicle comes in for other service.

I don't think Zybane was looking for that but rather a FCA portal that tells you what TSB's/RRT's/Recalls have been applied or are pending specifically for YOUR vehicle. I know the dealers have it in dealer-connect, but AFAIK, FCA does not roll this data into their customer portal.

That would be an absolutely excellent value-add for paid subscription members. Perhaps Milous, with his access to detailed vehicle order tracking info, might also have the means to tell if those crazy dealer techs applied the latest TCM TSB and PCM RRT to my Jeep.

You know, for a price, that is...

Re: green diesel engineering tune

Zybane, I think you should take it in for the latest and greatest transmission flash unless you are 100% good to go with your tranny. My 5/15 build got GDE from day 1 and 30 days later a TCM update came out. I wouldn't say my tranny is problematic, but wouldn't mind the latest update to try and smooth out a couple of the downshifts more.

I didn't think flashing the TCM would have any effect on the ecu flash?

The dealer tech hooks up the WiTech device to the Jeep OBD-II port and queries/flashes the modules via canbus. Ostensibly, all it takes to apply different available updates to TCM, BCM, PCM (aka ecu), etc, is a single click default action in the WiTech software. Very efficient from a dealer service standpoint.

Every PCM release for a 2014 is an RRT now, meaning that if their system thinks your 2014 PCM needs an update while you have asked them to apply an update to your transmission, then they're going to nuke your GDE flashed PCM by default. 2015 owners probably face similar difficulty communicating "I want just the TCM update but don't touch my PCM", but probably face less resistance from the dealer techs for rejecting a PCM update that's just a TSB and not an RRT.

This is one of the attractions of having a second PCM from GDE that you swap out before you go to the dealer. They can't nuke a device that they can't access. Let the dealer flash the stock PCM and then just swap the GDE flashed one back in when you get home.

The concern is about PCM updates overwriting the GDE programming. If Zybane looks forward from the date of his last service visit, sees that there are no PCM-related RRTs with later issue dates, then he'll know there is nothing currently pending to be concerned about. That could change in the future but even FCA probably doesn't know about future RRTs because they are driven by service visits uncovering widespread problems.

Of course, none of this would be a concern if GDE gets the flash programmer out. If the dealer overwrites the tune, you can just use the flash programmer to reapply the tune.

I really really want to get the GDE tune but do not want face the worry and hassle getting my PCM nuked or switching out my PCM every time I take my vehicle in for service. I am confident that with all of the brain power and resources GDE has that they will eventually crack the FCA codes and finally be able to sell the tune with a flash programmer. Will somebody from GDE please respond and tell us the status of the development of a flash programmer? I am sure that there are many potential customers out there that share my concerns.

Yeah, my local Jeep Dealer is a POS, and will do whatever they want, regardless of what I tell them. I'm waiting on the flash tool so I can make sure that I can fix it when they break it.
