Would be interested to know if you guys use or recommend any fuel additives for the Ecodiesel, in either stock or tuned form?

That is entirely up to you. We do not use any additives on our test vehicle. It will not make any difference in the tuning on the Ram.

I add 300ml of Penrite TCW-3 2 stroke oil to every tank of fuel. Add it prior to putting the fuel in. Have to use the white funnel thingy supplied with the vehicle.

Used it in my 2007 WK before I sold it and after 200,000 Klm's, the oil was as clean as a whistle. I noticed that the engine was louder when I had the GDE tune done and the 2 stroke quietened it down.

Cheers, Craig

Re: green diesel engineering tune

I plan to use Howes Diesel Treatment during the winter again. I had fuel gelling last winter when we were in the teens.

Separately a question for GDE. My second regen message came on at 650 miles. I decided I was going to be like an oblivious owner with OEM tune and just use the truck. Within the second start it recommended driving at highway speeds. So I did so for 10 miles until complete.

Let's say I didn't get the message feature. What would happen if I didn't drive at highway speeds and just putt around town for a few days on short stop and go traffic?

If you keep putting around town without stopping/parking, it'll eventually complete. The regen will continue at non highway speeds unless stopped for more than a number of seconds or when coasting for extended periods, like down a hill. Basically if the EGT drops too much or you're stationary for too long, it'll pause the regen and pick up later.

You can use a Torque PID to track your regen state and DPF soot level even on the stock firmware. Then you can unambiguously tell if you're in regen, albeit not quite as conveniently as via the GDE feature.

Yes. My stock firmware Jeep will frequently kick into regen while I am driving out of my driveway and in my neighborhood at 25 mph, then think better of it after I stop for 2 seconds at the first stop sign.

Re: green diesel engineering tune

Hi All,

Had the good old MIL come on earlier this week as my third regen was occuring since installing the GDE tune. Unfortunately the regen process started just as I was exiting the highway on my morning commute and I was late for a meeting so I couldn't just keep driving to complete the process and had to park. When I got back in the car later that day, the good old MIL lit up a few minutes into my drive. Luckily I picked up an OBDII scanner and it was reading a P249F code. This has come up recently over on the RAM Forums, and it turns out it's basically a code stating that the DPF took too long to get up to temp after the regen started, which makes some sense since I had to stop driving almost immediately after the regen started, and my next trip was stop and go traffic so the regen process couldn't really get going. GDE says nothing to worry about, and if you have an OBDII to just clear the code. They plan to remedy this in their next update according to GDE. Link to RAM forum below.
P249F Code - this is on the GDE ECU

Re: green diesel engineering tune

Hmm, a few people have had it. That's weird it never showed up in GDE's testing on their truck. Maybe they always just drove through regens?

I had a regen start as I got into traffic once. It tried to start but then stopped and told me to drive at hwy speeds which I never did till I finished work that day. Sounds like identical circumstances to how you triggered your MIL but mine was fine. There has got to be some very specific circumstances that trip that code but GDE says they're gonna disable it for future tunes.

Mine just threw that P249F code at lunch today. Glad it's not the other dreaded code.

last regen message it said it was in motion. I drove stop and go, parked the Jeep for 10 hours. When I got back it showed a different message asking me to drive at highway speeds. I did just that until regen completed. It's been trouble free the last 2200 miles after installing GDE tune.

Re: green diesel engineering tune

For those with the GDE tune ... some people claim the engine sound went up after the tune. Is the increase on engine sound enough to notice while driving (inside cabin)?

Thanks.
