I'm at a little over two years since purchase (new). No signs of battery weakness at all, so far. It would be the early MY2014 owners that might have something to say. Our diesels have a bigger battery than the other GC powertrains, so we might get a longer life.
Yes, apart from being flattened, heat is the biggest killer of batteries.
Being under the seat is a great advantage.
Here in Brisbane we get pretty warm summers, (though probably not compared to Arizona ) and have just had a real stinker, though much of our issue is humidity.
(Mine is 3 years old and still perfect.)
My suggestion though is to shop around when you need to replace it, don't go to your dealer unless you don't mind paying too much.
How many of us use Battery Tenders when in the garage?
Living in Texas, I keep my cars and motorcycle on BT's all the time. SWMBO's Optima just had the original battery replaced after 6 years. The battery was tested out as borderline "OK" but was definitely on its way out so I installed a WallyWorld Everstart.
FYI - For anyone looking, a replacement H8 AGM WallyWorld Everstart battery for our JGC is only $138 and they have a very good 5 year warranty : 3 years replacement then 2 years Pro-rated. And, of course, there are WallyWorlds everywhere.
How I wish we could get battteries for that sort of money here in Oz!
My wife's Hyundai i30 diesel just needed a new battery, the best I could find was $219. Ouch!
(It was five and a half years old, but gets lots of heat from the engine.)
I also have a Nov 2013 delivered 2014MY JGC Turbodiesel currently with 136k miles on it. I put the same type of miles on past pick-up trucks and the batteries did not last as long as this one.
Had it tested the last time I rotated tires and all looked fine.
The battery in our diesel Jeeps being an AGM type is great battery, and so much easier to replace than the one in my Dad's TDI Touareg for example, which is under the driver's seat and takes a lot of effort (bolts) to remove so as to be able to replace. (That and that one is not an AGM.)
Move the seat ALL the way forward and ALL the way up.
Lift the plastic cover. (It just unclips by pulling up).
You will see the battery and retaining bolts. (Always disconnect the negative first, and reconnect it last. Obviously also be careful not to short anything.)
Plan ahead to use jumpers or jump box to move the electric seat forward if your battery fails early. My 2011 with 78000 miles is still going....and going...and going. I'm wondering if mine is made by Energizer.
I changed the transmission fluid at a little over 100k miles. It's a 2 person job since there's a range of transmission temps you're supposed to adhere to so someone needs to be monitoring temps from the EVIC while someone else is putting the fluid in from down below. Having said that it was not a big deal.
I used the ZF8 fluid the transmission manufacturer recommends. Bought a 12 L case of it from a CA company. One refill takes 6L so I have enough for next time when I'll also change the pan/filter.
2011 Hemi with 24,000 that rests in the garage a lot with a Battery Tender. Battery checks good. No signs of a problem. Replacement, when if needs it will be AGM.
Well a couple of days ago the rear hatch wouldn't open with the fob and a couple of other things. The temp was 117 and it had been parked in the sun at the lake for 3 hrs. It happened again yesterday, it was 122 ! Changed the battery this morning. Autozone has the battery, H8-AMG for $190. Battery was 3yrs 10 months.
My dmax batteries went out I bought North star rebranded as x2 power at batteries plus, Agm made in USA, 60 month free replacement no proration. I think they are the best, 48pounds each and about 488$ for both.... I will be looking at an x2 when the time comes.
Everstart is made by Johnson Controls Inc., which makes batteries for both Autozone and Advance Auto, amongst others.
We never had an issue with our previous Everstart Maxx batteries. I do like the idea that you can get assistance at any WalMart IF you have an issue with the batteries. Besides our car road trips, when we tow our travel trailer around the country, having help near at hand is some comfort. And, should you need to get a replacement from WalMart, they will R&R the battery for you.
The autozone battery was about the only place that had a battery. Its made in Germany, has 900 CCA and weighs 58 pounds. By the way, replacing this thing in a 90 degree garage is tough when your 65 and weigh 160! I wasn't sure who was going to end up under that seat!
