Thanks for all the great info. A computer flash is out of the equation for me. I won't be taking that risk. And the bluespark is a bit of work to get the correct settings. Wish it came with preset setting but still keep the option to change them if you wanted.

The one I ordered comes pre configured to best for the Jeep but also gives you the option to tweak it if you want. It also comes with a 3 year replacement warranty and a 14 day money back guarantee. So from the time it get delivered I will have about 2 weeks to test it out and make my decision if I want to keep it. Out of the available options, this was the best one that fit what I was looking for and the price was reasonable. They even sent me a coupon.

I was looking at ChipExpress for my BMW 335d. Ultimately, ordered the BlueSpark because of the thread here, and a little research. Hope I am not misinterpreting your post, but from the BlueSpark website :

"The unit is set from the factory at for a balance of additional torque, power and economy, with user adjustments available behind the rear panel should you need them."

I ordered the BlueSpark Pro w/Boost Control. Based on the statement above, I hope to just plug and play and not tinker with the adjustments.

I could have totally misunderstood what I read about the bluespark. If they have that on their site, then I would not worry about it one bit. And even if it was not the case, all these things come with pretty good money back guarantees.

Re: Has anyone used Chip Express tuner?

Banks is making their own version of the engine (called the 630T I believe) so I wouldn't be surprised to see some software from them at some point.

I emailed them about 8 weeks ago about this and they said they had no plans for it, but with all their development work on this engine, I would bet that they come out with something before too long.

So I got the chip express tuner today. 1 week from when they mailed it. Which I thought was pretty good.

I installed it a little bit ago and went for a test drive. My first impression is that the GC felt lighter when accelerating. It was in a way learning to drive it again as it had more get up and go. I did floor it a little and got no error codes or lose any mpg. I'm avenging 22mpg combined, so I will see if that number improves.

I will see how it feels over the next week of driving. Well, that is if I actually get to drive it. Supposed to snow tomorrow so the city will probably "shut down" as it does when there are a few flurries on the ground.

Either ways I will report back.

Re: Has anyone used Chip Express tuner?

While not an apples/apples comparison, I just installed the Bluespark w/Pro Boost on my 335d today. EASY to install for someone that is not all that mechanically inclined. Took it for a quick 10 mile test drive to make sure there were no codes or any other issues. Certainly feels different, but smoother. I'm going to give it a few days to make a real decision, but it was definitely using less RPM for a given speed. Bluespark advertises that you can return the unit and have it programmed and re-wired for a different vehicle. Therefore, If I get the EcoDiesel, I can recycle the box.

Re: Has anyone used Chip Express tuner?

Hey Dark Shadow thanks for the report. What kind of power and mpg numbers do they claim for the chip on our diesel model? Thanks

Horsepower will improve from 240hp to 276hp. But could produce up to 304hp. It will probably get between 276hp and 304hp.

Torque will improve from 420 lbs/ft to 467 lbs/ft. But could produce up to 537 lbs/ft. It will be between 467 lbs/ft and 537 lbs/ft.

Fuel economy can result between 8-16% yet can produce up to 20% improvement depending on engine tolerances, driving style and conditions.

The tuner may also increase the maximum speed of the Jeep by up to 5%. Not sure that really applies to us as I think ours in the US are speed limited.

Re: Has anyone used Chip Express tuner?

Perhaps they are speed limited but my son had his over 100 MPH and he said he knew it would go more but since he only had it a few weeks he backed off. Nice to be able to go that fast but if you like to keep your drivers license you will only have a few opportunities to drive that fast.

I will ask about your reasoning to spend 600+ to squeeze a little bit more MPG. Well 15% or more is more than a little but seems the savings go out the window because of the cost of the unit and you also possibly shorten the life of the engine and tranny as well as possibly voiding your warranty.

If you have a moment could you explain or describe your thought process that lead you to buying this device.
